The snowy and great egret are some of the hardest birds to shot for me. The bright white against a dark or muddy backround is a challenge for me. Here are a few atempts using spot and exposure compensation:

P and R,
Welcome to Dgrin :wave and thank you for sharing your lovely egret shots with us :thumb :thumb
Yep, those white birds are tough to expose correctly, but you did really well on these :clap
I'd give away Harry's 500mm lens just to have spot metering :lol3 Oh well, I don't think that's gonna happen, so I too will keep dialing in negative EV comp....lol
Thanks for sharing,

Thanks All,
They ware take at the Palo Alto CA WLP. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. The egret took over a small grove of palm trees and the amount of nesting egets and night herons was amazing.
Steve I was out numbered at least 3:1 C to N. Most with the 300,350 or 20. Some with the big guns and glass that had all drooling. Most of the guys in my D70 range were shooting with the 9% setting and keeping the hightlight down.
You may want Spot but I would kill for ISO 100 for less then $5000http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/yelrotflmao.gif
