View Full Version : Did Quicktime replace Full HD video play?

I haven't watched a video in Full HD in awhile, but a friend who tried recently told me when she clicked the Full HD option (on IE), she saw Quicktime try to open, then it froze. Not only would it not play, it froze her computer. On my laptop at home, on IE, I saw the Quicktime "Q", and I could tell the old SmugMug format was replaced by Quicktime, but it played okay. On my computer at work, I can't play it because I get an error message telling me I need Quicktime.

All the other playing options play just fine, in IE and FF.

Is Quicktime new for SmugMug, for Full HD only? Or what are the parameters?
What should viewers do when they click the Full HD option and Quicktime freezes the video (and computer)?

The video example is here:

Thanks.

I don't think that the format or requirements have changed. See the section "Video Playback":

I read that page, thanks, but something seems amiss. Both my friend and I are on PCs or PC type laptops, no Mac of any kind. If Quicktime is for Macs, why is it default opening on PCs? Adobe flash format is used for the smaller sizes, but the super high HD max option is now opening via Quicktime. Two different users, two different locations, types of machines, etc., same default Quicktime for only the largest playing size.

(The problem of Quicktime freezing and freezing my friend's computer can be figured out next.) Thanks.
