In early October I will be flying into Manchester, NH and then heading to the Maine coast. Tentatively planning on a day in Portland, a couple days in Camden and three days in Bar Harbor. That leaves me with a couple more days before I fly out early on the 12th.

Looking for suggestions off the beaten path also happy to modify the above itinerary if needed. Should I head inland for a couple days and try to pick up some fall colors? Other suggestions would be welcome.

TIA,
Bob

You might consider taking an extra day when you're in Bar Harbor and heading up to the Schoodic Peninsula. It's the next peninsula (heading to the northeast) on the mainland, and it's part of Acadia National Park. Just fabulous.

Another place worth stopping along the coast is the Wells Reserve - http://www.wellsreserve.org/. Wells is south of Portland.

That looks interesting. I've got a mapquest route that I've been trying to embed but haven't been able to so far. I'll try and get it loaded tonight.
