I was fortunate enough tonight to have my camera with me when my wife and I were coming back from dinner at Lake Tahoe. We spotted 2 mule deer near the road. Fortunately they didn't take off running when we stopped and madly grabbed the camera and tripod :D

Good captures Steve. It proves once again that it pays to have your camera with you at all times.

I love the way the deer is peeking through the woods in the first frame. Super natural capture .

A Kodak POTD for sure!

If I stopped the car and opened the door (darn, the tripod is home) believe me those deer would have bolted!

That first one is just absolutely great!

I never actually opened the car door. I climbed out the drivers window, set up the tripod on the top of the car and then took the shots. I think thats why the deer didn't take off. They didn't see me as a threat since I never left the vehicle. I'm sure it would have made a good action shot with me hanging out the window draped over the top of the car :yikes

I can't even imagine that! Climbing out the window! But I guess that's the trick, not to open the door. My moon roof opens, so I'll remember that if I'm ever in a situation like that, open the roof, stand on the seat and put the camera on the roof (instant tripod)!

Thanks for the explanation...
:D :D :D

Hey Steve, nice shots here http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif. But you, hanging out the car window for the picture?? You'll have to show me that technique tomorrow. By the way, is the car door still opening/closing ok ??http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/yelrotflmao.gif

Gotta go now. Kevin. http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/tiptoe.gif

Nice shots, I got a mother and Fawn the other day. They were really used to people though and I got very close to them. This was taken with a 28-135.
