My name is Mike LaBarba of BrothersMedia.smugmug.com (http://brothersmedia.smugmug.com/). I have been taking pictures for about 8 years now and feel as if my brother and I are ready to start promoting our work. If you have the time, could you take a look at our favorite’s gallery and give me a little feedback as to quality and a direction for promotion? My desire is to get involved with galleries (Like any photographer) or something of that nature.

Beautiful work! I think the first step to selling (in everything, not just photography) is to know what you are trying to sell. Are you trying to sell you prints? Or services?

this shot is good for a calendar or somesuch - the only wayto improve it is for something a bit more intersting in the foreground - still a lovely scene

i like the abstracts and closeups, too.

you'll need to focus on a particular area though, i think, when you promote your work.

Well, I don't want to limit what I shoot. I enjoy doing a little of everything (i.e. infrared,portraits,landscapes,studio work,etc...). Because of this, I think, art shows or galleries is the way to go. Beautiful work! I think the first step to selling (in everything, not just photography) is to know what you are trying to sell. I thought about limiting what I shoot, but it just didn't seem a logical path to take. I am constantly looking to improve my tech and learn new ones. As most of us are! Are you selling your work using avenues other than smugmug?

I really don't know much about marketing your work, you have some great photographs but I have to agree that most photographers that show in galleries have concentrated on one style,theme,etc....If you present your work to a gallery owner I'd stick with one style..Just MHO

Nice work, but one small suggestion.
If you would like people to view the "favorites" gallery, you might want to feature it so it will be at the top of the page rather than the bottom.

Hi, I don't know about your area where the brick and mortar galleries are, but here they charge a huge price for you to "belong" to the group.

I thought of that, too, until an artist told me what it was costing her. I can't even remember because it was totally off of my map. And it is a privilege for her to be "in" that group.

Not that it is the best or anything, I had never heard of it, but it is a gallery, and she is privileged to belong...............for a huge price. Even she thinks it is a lot and she is kind of in the privileged class herself.

ginger (Now to set up at a festival, that might be more reasonable, I have no idea..........I am still trying to get the money to buy a frame. That has been on my list for over a year.:D )
