I recently paid another visit to this beautiful waterfall in upstate South Carolina. Unfortunately I picked a day with full sun and didn't get there until late morning. The waterfall is actually 3 falls in 1. When I got to the upper section, it was in part shade, part sun - and there was a lot of bright white water. I didn't even bother shooting. The path continues down to this point at the top of the middle section. I barely made it there in time -

By the time I got to where I could get to a good frontal shot of that section, it was in bad lighting also. So I opted to continue down to the pool at the base of lower section -

And finally, a closer shot of this section -

All shots were with an ND stacked on a polarizing filter to be able to get the 1/4 - 1/2 second shutter speeds I like. Thanks for looking!

Really nice, Rich, as usual. I like the milky effect of the flowing water, too. You managed to capture the scene well regardless of the sun which was already trying to burn the highlights! :D

Thanks for your kind comments, Ana! Yeah, there are a few hot spots I had to try to deal with :wxwax Some people like the milky effect, some don't. I started a thread here - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?p=148558#post148558 - to hopefully get some opinions on that subject.

Sweet falls, Rich.
Beautiful captures... even the hot spots, which don't detract from the scenes in any way.
Don't you just love it when a cloud covers up the sun, then, just as you open the shutter, out comes the sun again, brighter than ever!?!?:rolleyes:rolleyes

Ah, yes - that has happened to me quite a bit. I use a tripod, but also use the timer to help reduce camera shake. That darn cloud can move quite a bit in that period of time. Thanks for your and Khaos' comments!

you still shoot with an 828?
if you do, have you tried just picking up two cheap linear polarizers? you can then rotate them to dial in quite a bit of ND when you want it. very effective, i have found. not sure if you caught wind of it or not, but i used to use tha combination on my 828 for ND and for IR...
but as always, great shots. i am going to head off to ohiopyle state park here in PA later on this fall, hopefully ill have some to share http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/xzicon_smile_cool.gif.

Hi Ed! Great to see you over here - thanks for the kind comments. I still shoot with a 717. Haven't been able to justify upgrading yet. Thanks for the tip on the polarizers! I have 1 linear and may have to pick up another to give that a try.
