well, this is your first post on the WP and this is my first post in this section so that gives us something in common. :D
The first thing that really jumps out at me is of course the color and it is beautiful. But I do think upping that shutter speed would've kept his entire body in focus....he's so animalistic and primal (no pun intended with his ink) that having him entirely in focus would really make him pop more than he does now.
that's really the only thing. question though, what's going on with the drapes in the background concerning the contrasty purple spots. Is that due to upping the contrast a bit too much, or maybe the saturation?
Now I just wish I had been able to go to whatever event you took this picture at!!

I only see one thing I'd want to change.
As Faerie said, the colors are wonderful, so's the pose. I like the motion blur and wouldn't mind even more. his face is crisp, that's enough for moi. Nice exposure and white balance.
The only thing I don't care for is the right side where the drape is pulled back. It's a distraction and ugly, detracts from an otherwise lovely image.
As this shot has such a lot going for it, I'm curious to hear what others have to say.

I love the colour, I love the expression and pose, however I do find the background a little distracting. The only thing I would suggest is cropping it tightly near his finger, from about where you X is and everything to the right of that. I think that would put him right in the centre and put the drawing point of the image directly on his face and get rid of most of the distraction. That big black space on the right keeps drawing my eye over. Otherwise a really great capture.:thumb

XO,
I agree with Sid. I like everything else, including the bright BG and the motion blur (face and chest are sharp and that's all I care about) and as he pointed out, even more blur would be fine. But, that gap in the BG bothers me too :dunno It looks so out of place.
Still, this shot has lots going for it :thumb

You caught the moment and the vivid red drapes/curtains appear to be blowing in the wind which adds to the "wildness" of the portrait. My only recommendations for the shot would be to have gone vertical or else cropped square (the items behind the drapes and on the far right side are too distracting).

good points concerning the blur...perhaps that's why I was suggesting his body totally in focus to make it pop out more, but cropping would really achieve that. :D

Thanks all for the whipping.
Some background about the shot, it was taken at an event in Boise, ID called alX (alternative lifestyle eXposition), itw as an edgy fashion/fetich show, the guy in the picture actually only has a very small tattoo the rest is bodypaint in a tribal theme.
The scene is the finale/curtain call and each of the performers walks through three big red drapes that are being made to wave by ppl left and right (outside of the picture) i.e. the red drapes are held horizontal between two ppl who move it up/down to get a standing wave going.
to DF:
I checked the EXIF, this was shot with my 50mm/1.8, and it was at f/1.8 - 1/50 sec, available light (which was theater style including colors, which is the purple yous ee on the black stage) lens doesn't open any further, and flash would ruin the 'feel'. Reality also, I would likely have stayed with 1/50, as in these types of shoots I typicaly use 1/lens mm as a setting, open wide and put my D70 on Auto ISO (can Canon do that?)
to Sid:
thanks Sid, I will address one of these issues here in a second.
to Rahmonster:
thanks, hang tight I will address the cropping issue here in a second.
to Steve:
thanks.
to Dixie
Thanks you as well, and as I had trouble cropping this picture, I think I will go with all of your suggestions, and I think I will make it a square crop.
Thanks for the whipping.
