I've had it with my 70-200/2.8/IS. I've experienced random lock-ups with IS engaged for about two months now. This weekend at a Motocross was my last straw. I use IS mode-2 on panning shots a lot, and I spent extra bucks for that feature.

It appears to be a known problem with that lens. Random ERR 01 and ERR 99. It is still, barely, under factory warranty. What do I send? I have the original box, sales receipt, etc. Do I send everything (lens hood, carry bag, tripod collar), or just the lens itself and little else?

Lastly, is there a way to expedite a repair?

I can't help you with where and what to send. There might be more info in this (long) FM thread about the problem...

You might want to try calling the Canon service center first to make sure they know of your problem and that it's close to warranty expiration time so they can get you a service tag # pronto. Hoping that everything goes well.
