Just joined today and thought I might give y'all a chance to help me develop my skills. Shot this on vacation in June on Cape Cod Mass. just at dusk. Adjusted Levels in PS Elements. Exposure was 1/800 sec f4.5 ISO 800 (don't ask me why) :dunno Focal Length 24mm on a Canon 18-50 No Flash.

G'day & welcome to D/grin mark...thats a fine start. Great photo...maybe a bit heavy on the saturation but nice all the same.

It doesn't look over-saturated to me:dunno . It looks fine.

I'm not sure that the missing bouy as 'negative space' works though. Were you trying to make a point of there being a missing bouy or not?

Over-all it's a nice pic but doesn't make me go wow.

Could you down-size a bit in future, big is usually better but it's too big to fit on my screen.

and welcome to dgrin.

Sorry for the image size i had one heck of a time getting it small enough to upload, not very good with the web end of things. Is there a way to link images from my gallery to forums..say the medium size picture?

I understand you comment about oversaturation, I did increase saturation to give the shot more "pop", maybe i over did it a bit. I am trying to control the urge to oversaturate, some of my early digitals where way off.
Didn't even notice the negative space of the missing bouy, just wanted to see some of the weathered wood wall Here is a shot of the whole wall {just to practice my uploading.

Is the bottom left corner in shadow? It's come out a bit dark.
If it's not in shadow (assuming that sun was setting) you could have taken it 10 minutes earlier and maybe that corner would have been better lit.

What would have really cool would have been to have a boat or something reflected in the windows.

Hi Mark,
I just joined today myself. So my first critique for your first post. :):
What I like best is the late afternoon light on this. The color are nice, and the dof works well. The right side is not quite as sharp as the rest, so my eyes tend to move from r to l across the pic. I like the wood texture showing thru, I didn't really see it as negative space.
Overall nice shot. IMHO. :thumb
