I like the composition, where you went the trouble to go down to the ground. I also like the way your wide angle works to get some background in the shots. The background is blown, but doesn't bother me one bit. There's two things I do like to see different: the grass in front of the boy bothers me, since it distracts and doesn't add any flavor to the shot. Also, using some fill flash to lighten up his face might have also helped. But all in all, the shot pleases me.

Ron,

I'm pretty much with Marloff on this one. I like lots of what you did (ya done good :thumb ), but I can't help feeling that I'd like to see the boy better exposed. As pointed out, a fill flash would have really made a positive difference with this shot.

Guy's,

On my monitor he is only lightly shadowed. However, I looked at it on another minitor and he is heavily shadowed. Bummer. If thats what you are seeing, I could't agree more. Mabey I can PS it a bit. Oh, and I had'nt even noticed the blown backround. Thanks for the help!

Regardless of how the image looks on your monitor, when I clock the pixels in the childs face, they read 35, 38,40 range - this a very dark grey, nearer black. Certainly not a typical skin reading from a young child. Even the child's left forearm reads 128,129,126 - mid grey - not a typical skin tone for a child, still dark.

The composition is interesting, but the subject in the foreground is way to dark to capture my interest. I think this was a good opportunity to use fill flash for the foreground. Fill flash can really help a lot of photos shot in the shade.

Is your monitor calibrated?

Ok, you have my attention... What do these numbers mean?

"Is your monitor calibrated?"

Ron, I like the composition, but like others have said fill-flash would have helped. I would maybe have moved a bit more to the left to have the weeds out of his face.

These are the red, green and blue values of each pixel. 0,0,0 is black and 255,255,255 is white.

Dodge tool looks good! Neat shot! More of a story teller than a portrait though.

Brian,

I like it better but it seems that some of the colors got washed out.

I tried playing with "curves" (no clue what I'm doing)... What do you think?

Thanks for everyones help!
