Hi you'll,

I started shooting again on Friday and today after my recent down period. I was thrilled to get back to the wetlands. http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/clap.gif I wanted to shoot some egrets but I got side-tracked by those insidious ducklings http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=16438 . If that wasn't bad enough I had to deal with those pesky raptors.

I'm trying to get an egret shot done when this Caracara comes walking down the road

http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/32115262-L.jpg

He walks by this tree where this osprey is hanging out

http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/32115263-L.jpg

As if that wasn't enough of a distraction he has to go off and land on a tree that's closer to me.

http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/32115264-L.jpg

I went back today hoping for better luck but nooo!!!. There was that damn osprey still hanging out in that same tree

http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/32115260-L.jpg

If that wasn't bad enough he brought a friend with him who was on the next tree
http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/32115266-L.jpg

http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/32115265-L.jpg

Its not easy trying to get those egret shots in with all this bother.

Damn....I hate it when that happens. :rofl Too cool. I don't see many BOP in this area. All the water birds you can shake a stick at..but very few predators. I do see a turkey vulture or hawk from time to time. There are osprey on the inter-coastal waterway...but the boat's been out of service (like it's Cpt.). I'll have to make a point to get some "real" B.O.P. to post soon. I should have a driver or two for the next couple of weeks...as company arrives tomorrow.

Nice shots ...Harry. I really like that Caracara. **not knowing his birds**. I've never seen one of those (either). Sooooooo many birds...not enough time or travel. Thanks for sharing with us. I need to get a bird book and study it. :scratch :rofl I only know the neighbors. :thumb

Cheers

Thanks, I'm glad you liked them. Isn't that great tree?. If you have the $ I can arrange to have one shipped to you. http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/deal.gif As for the price just go to the B&H website and see what the Nikon 600mm is sellling for. http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/naughty.gif

The last raptor was a Broad-Winged Hawk.

Love 'em Harry. I was sharing these with the dh (as I'd had to share the bothersome but extremely cute:): ducklings) and mentioned that you had just had surgery - the dh figures the surgery was to fix a hernia caused by carrying around a freakin' 700 mm lens!!!!

Glad you are getting out there and shooting, Harry. Keep em coming.

very nice series Harry

i was little egretted out so these raptors are a welcome change-have you established what they are eating? a hunting/feeding shot would be something to look forward to.

have you started using a hide yet?

Hey BMP,

If you're in Florida you have raptors somewhere. You just have to figure out where they like to dine. :D

The Crested Caracara is a member of the Falconidae family. He's not much of a raptor as he usually eats carrion.

Thanks Ann, glad you liked the shots. You can tell your DH that my hernia pre-dated my 500mm lens. I got it carrying Andy. :rofl I get the 700mm by adding a tiny 1.4 TC to the 500mm lens which only weighs 7+ pounds.

Egretted out !!!!!!!!!! Impossible. :rofl

The Caracara is a carrion eater so he doesn't do much hunting. The Osprey are hunting for fish and I've posted a number of shots before of them with their various atches. The Hawk is looking for mice, snakes, any available small prey he can find.

In the Wetlands where I shoot the best hide you can have is your car. The birds are used to cars driving through and usually won't react to the car but will fly off once you get out of the car.

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff. Nobody wants to hear your whining. I'm sure that this isn't the first time that you or Ben have been chased by the cops at least these are just beat cops and not the vice squad. :rofl It's good to have a Canon shooter handy, snakes are attracted to the white lenses.

I will have to talk with you about lending Ben the chain saw. I thought everyone knew that he wasn't allowed sharp objects. :rolleyes

Hehehehe. I just want to point out to you that the tree is surrounded by water. Also there happens to be gators in the water.
