Yes....more EGRET shots. This one was watching things from atop a tall pine tree next door. I shot these WITHOUT a TC :rofl Just a little itty bitty 200mm. :1drink

Doesn't look very stable up there on top. Amazes me how they can
sit on those small branches. Love the lighting on them. Nice ones.

Thanks for looking and the comments. I know what you mean, Alan. I was amazed that large egret didn't even make that little limb bend. Must be a pretty agile bird also.....to balance on that little twig. I wonder what would happen if I climbed up on top of that tree ? :huh
Here are a few more for fun.
Cheers.

Thanks. I guess where I come from they usually top the tree with a star or angel...not an egret. Guess you Cali folks are a bit radical out there. :thumb
Merry Christmas.

Thanks Harry. I think I can help out with the egret pics...along with any of the other water birds.:):
I don't know about these TC things......they scare me. I've noticed strange behavior from a couple old guys that use these. They are starting to scare me also. Nothing good can come of this. Using a TC could change the way the world is looked at....or worse. TCs are EVIL...EVIL I say. Run...run fast...and far before it's too late. The TC are coming to take us away.....

I also notice he's a Nikon SHOOTER:dunno :scratch
What's with you Nikon shooting....machinegunning....TC using Old Mad Men?? :rofl
I'll take your TC love under consideration and look into getting one for my BOOM BOOM (Canon). (for the record..I own Nikon stuff too...just not digital)

LOL BMP :rofl Hey, you know how it goes when you get older. You need a fast shooting camera and long glass (and lots of fiber :uhoh ) just so you can read the morning paper :lol3
I'd love to be an old dog too (one outta 2 ain't bad ;-) but I can't afford "L" primes :cry Plus, I cut off too many wings as it is using a zoom....lol FWIW, I agree that your 200mm would benefit from a nice 1.4X TC. Not a heck of alot of extra reach, but it wouldn't slow that lens down much either :dunno Just a thought.

I hear you , Steve. I was actually looking at the Canon 1.4x tele. I would like the 2x better..but have read many complaints about image quality suffering. The 1.4x isn't suppose to be as bad? It would be nice to have a 400mm (with tc) to get me close to some of the BIF ..etc. The $280 for the TC is a far cry from the $1200 or so for the 400mm f/5.6..or the several grand for the f/2.8 version (which I really want). I also need a super wide too. ahhh too many lenses..not enough time. LOL
Thanks Khaos. I appreciate you looking and commenting.
Cheers

BMPI got so much on my sensor, in one outing to the beach, never happened like that before. Anyway a pocket rocket blower, or whatever, doesn't do it for me anymore. I will use what I have til I can afford more.
Part of the problem is I am afraid to use that stuff, I mean I am afraid to put anything past the opening to the camera.
I should never have gone to the beach. Last year I practically lived there, with my rebel and lenses. Some dust spots, but not like on one trip this year.
I didn't see any on that backlit shot either. I can see it on mine when I take the shot with a clear sky as background.

I have two Canon TCs. a 1 1/4 and a 2Xs, I have stacked them. I have gotten good photos, but not as easily.
I can use AF with just the 1 1/4, but I have to focus manually with the 2Xs. I can't do that fast enough for flying birds.
I am glad to carry them in my backpack. Glad I have them. I usually use the 1 1/4. It is kind of a staple right now, though I am trading to a 400L lens, so I will use that w/o a TC for awhile.
I think much longer than 400 mm, I really should be using a monopod. Maybe I should be using it anyway, but the longer I go lens wise, the more crucial it is. I am often by myself, and I just can't carry it all. So there is a limit as to how long I want my lens to be at this point.
I can get there with it, but getting back darn near kills me. Especially as it is not just carrying the stuff where I need to go, it is walking back and forth for the hours I am there.
There is some extra adrenalin that seems to keep me going, but once I leave, I just disintegrate and start praying that I make it to the car, no kidding there either.
Birdman, you depend on AF, I would make sure you could still use that with the TCs. Probably with a 1 1/4, but probably not with a 2 Xs.

Hey...thanks Ginger. I follow where you are coming from. I have thought about the. 1.4x converter. I might get it as a stop gap until I can swing a 300mm/400mm. I do rely on the AF exclusively. I don't like it...but that's life in the big city. :dunno Fact is...I don't even see any of the info in my 20D's viewfinder. Can't see any of it during the day...and even in the dark it's kind of difficult. I wish I could order some new eyes from B&H. :D I think the next purchase just may be a TC? IF not ..then probably that long telephoto. I might have to hit the used market and look for a nice Canon 300mm f/2.8 with IS. :thumb From what I've read/heard...the AF system on the 20D works better with a F/2.8 lens. It will still AF with something slower...but I guess you don't get the added benefits of the cross patterned extra special superman AF pattern. Well..that's the story and I'm sticking to it. LOL.
I'm going to have to do some more reading on sensor cleaning. I've read a bunch...but it's been a while. I'll look into some of the brush methods. There is a few good articles on various make-up/artists brushes that work very well. Based on a static electricity charge....to "attract" the duts etc. Might also need some liquid method (forget the name at the moment). Ahhh damn dust/dirt/beer. Maybe it's easier to PS the googly mook out in PP? :1drink :scratch
