To find pelicans on a freshwater lake in Reno! These white pelicans were on Washoe Lake.

All nice pics, but I really like the first one.
Thanks, not sure if the Pelicans are seasonal or a year round thing? Guess I'll find out in time.
Thanks for your comments

Welcome to Reno Pete,
I see you are already finding shooting locations. I've never seen Washoe from that perspective before, did you hike up or drive up the hill? It'll be fun to see what photos you come up with, as your perspectives of the area will be different.
You must have quite the glass go capture the pelicans that far out into the lake like that. From the looks of how deep the water is, they must be near the middle:rofl . We had lots of water this year, but drought years will pretty much dry this lake up:cry.
Nice captures of the critters, did you get these on the wildlife lookout platforms? And as a bonus, there are supposed to be a couple of breeding pairs of Balds in the valley. I've never seen them, but have talked to people who have. There are Balds up around Lake Tahoe though, I've seen them.
Doesn't look much like a desert now, does it. Have fun exploring the local area and holler of you are looking for something in particular.
Thanks for sharing,
Chris

This place has lots of potential, with all the lakes, hills, mountains and animals i think i will be lost for ideas.
I walked up to the vantage point to get this shot and took two shots and stiched them together. The Pelicans were right out in the middle, this shot is almost full size with the 400mm.
Looking forward to getting together with you once i have settled.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
