Bottom line is that a British fellow used a weather balloon and a cheap P&S, with some simple electronics, to capture images from space that has NASA interested:

It's funny that both (presumably) unrelated experiments were named "Icarus." I guess some names are just too obvious. Unless the MIT students took their inspiration from Harrison's earlier attempts and then didn't bother to change the name when they launched theirs.
