Hi,

I am wondering how I can incorporate a blog into my wedding photography website (http://www.sebastiendamour.com). I currently have a blog (http://sebmour.wordpress.com) that is external and that doesn't provide help for my SEO. I would like to install wordpress directly in a page and create a blog on my website.

Is this possible? If so, how can I make this work?

Thank you very much for your time and help,

Sébastien D'Amour

You could embed your blog into a gallery but that would still be external to your smug site, and that doesn't give a good blog experience.

I really don't understand why you think your blog needs to be inside of your smugmug site. There is benefit from having other sites provide links into your smugmug site - which means that an external blog is a good thing.

One reason your blog isn't helping you is because you have uploaded photos directly to your blog instead of linking them to your smug site. To improve your SEO, use a combination of an <a href= and <img src= statement to place photos in your blog and to provide a link to your photo galleries. See this post for an example: Adding photos to your blog (http://www.dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=886014&postcount=2). You can see an example of this on my blog.

I use Blogger, not Wordpress, so I can't give you instructions on how to change your blog to match your smug site, and I believe that level of customization is not available with a free Wordpress site but is available at other site levels. The post I linked above is in a thread that I wrote about matching a blogger blog to a smugmug site.

Denise:

Thank you for your reply. I know that having my blog into my website would be better for SEO since photographers don't have much wording on their website.

Having the blog inserted would provided a lot of text and keywording. This would greatly help my ranking in search engines.

Actually, I don't believe it would. If you embed your blog in a smugmug gallery all you are doing is putting it in a container for viewing purposes. Your blog would still be hosted at Wordpress, not at SmugMug.

If you want it inserted you would have to use a smugmug gallery and put your text in the gallery instead of in a blog. There really isn't a gallery style that supports that nicely.

One of the important factors in SEO is inbound links. Your blog outside of your smugmug site can provide inbound links to your smug site. As I noted in my first post above, you are not currently taking advantage of that. Uploading photos to your blog does not help you. Pulling photos from your smugmug site for placement in your blog using a combination of <a href= and <img src= statements does create an inbound link to your photo galleries.
