Something strange happened (long)

I think maybe it is because my flash was on. The on camera built in 20D flash.
I thought, well, it can't hurt anything, and besides its reach can't be as far as I am shooting. I got some very strange colors.

Yesterday was one of those days, not much went right.............and what did required pushing and shoving by me.

Any, whatever, comments on these shots. It was raining a good deal of the time. From the rain my glasses became totally useless, so I was really relying on the AF, I lost photos that way. I lost photos every which way.

This might be a Tri Heron, but I don't know. It took shelter from the rain in the big bird tree.

The colors are so garish???

Above, I was going to run it through Neat Ninja, didn't get to it, but that algae is that yucky grainy look.

Below: Little Blue Heron in hiding. I do like this photo, just about the only one I do like. (I love their idea of what makes them invisible, as this bird so obviously is in the bird's mind.)

This deer has no pixels, and I had time. It is across this "green lake", but I thought it would reach. A bit later, another buck came up, this one left. I have the blurry shots on my hard drive.

Before it all, after a storm before we got there, but BEFORE the heavens opened on me, there was a rainbow. I guarantee you that there are birds out there, perhaps the deer, too. I can't see any of them, and no one else can either, however, I would rather post it here than on landscapes. It is where all the birds and deer are, or part of the area. If people want to know re birding, they can just look at this photo and figure out how they are going to get bird shots.

That is algae on the water. The trees are in the water except the way across part. The deer come out of there. I probably had my wide lens on for the rainbow shots. Was changing lenses a lot.

:agree with John, Ginger. If you were using the internal flash you may have run across the 1/250 sync speed limit. Meaning no matter what speed was needed, the camera would only allow 1/250. It has happened to me in Av mode before :rolleyes It's not surprising that some shots may have been over exposed and others may have been blurry (due to a long focal length being used) because of this "limit". I know some of the external Canon flashes can override this limit. I haven't found anyway of overriding the internal flash though :dunno

Still, you captured some really nice subjects girl :clap

Thanks, John, Steve. I learned something, too. I guess that is worth good money right there:D

I have the Sigma Super on order to get here tomorrow. I have batteries charging for it. That will be a learning curve. If I ever do use it for birds, etc.

ginger in know you're shooting raw i betcha you can correct those color casts easily in your raw conversion :deal

Sorry you seem a bit dissapointed with these. Just out of curiosity.....have you tried to convert them into B&W ...and then mess with contrast (dodge & burn purhaps also)??? Might get rid of the color issues all together? (or try the above advice). I'd just tear off that flash on the 20D...it's ugly anyway. :huh :D

I hate flash....hate it..hate it..hate it. Never use it. never never never. That is why God invented fast lenses and high ISO speeds. :huh *jk*

Look at the bright side...YOU SAW BIRDS. :thumb

Yes, I would have corrected them if I had known what I wanted to correct them to. I did play with the temperature and hue a bit. So some of them are modified. I didn't want to approximate daylight, because I had shot them........well, flash does look like daylight doesn't it. Smile....

And I can still do it, can't I. I always keep that RAW file.

Yes, I saw birds, I saw deer, I saw a rainbow. Nice!

The bird in the bird tree, the first photo, I thought it might be a tricolor heron, but there is all of that orange, particularly on the head. Tricolor herons do not have orange on the head. I do not think the color shift was that great?

Magnolia Gardens yesterday evening. I like to go in the evening. I am going out of town, then Bill is, so it was kind of an "until we meet again" thing at the gardens. Just for a couple of weeks tops.

It rained so hard before we got there that they closed and locked the gate early. I walked in, they said to come in the exit.................naturally, we were the only ones there.

But, Dixie, where did you come from?

Does anyone know what kind of bird the one with the orange head is?

Dixie when are you coming to Charleston? Or did you?
