I am going to be back east next week, and my son wants to get in a couple of hockey games, the Boston Bruins and the Providence Bruins. At 12 he is an aspiring sports photographer and wants to take in a camera to shoot for a class presentation. Anyone have experience in what you can and can not bring into the respective arenas? He was unable to find anything on the teams websites. Thanks in advance for any help...

Gary-

I go to the P-Bruins games quite often but have never brought my camera. I found this link for the Dunkin Donuts Center which says no cameras or video equipment allowed. I don't know how strongly they enforce it. I've brought a point & shoot in my purse before to take pictures of my son's P-Bruins birthday party but I'm not sure I would get away with my 40D with a 70-200 lensn up at the glass.

A quick check of the Boston Bruins site FAQ reveals that cameras are not only allowed, but so is flash photography....hmmm wonder if they will let my young man hang a few strobes...lol.

Anyone have any shots from a Boston Bruins game that they have shot without media access?

TD Bank camera policy:

Camera Policy
Sporting Events: Non-flash, still cameras without a detachable lens, may be used to take pictures of sporting events or events where house lights are illuminated during a performance. Cameras with detachable lens are prohibited from all TD Garden events. Any tripod or other photography equipment may not be used or placed in any area of the building without building issued media credentials.

I usually research/contact the venue and read/ask about their camera policies.

For pro hockey, you can usually get to the rink about 40 minutes the start of the game and shoot warm ups from the glass if you want close-up photos of the players.

Also, you can get some interesting compositions and images using a P&S from a hockey game. They wont' be the standard SI covershots, but don't let that limit you.
