I'm looking for a bag to lug my lenses and camera around in. I currently have a
20D
kit EF-S 18-55mm
EF-S 10-22mm
EF 28-135
Gitzo 1228 legs with
Manfrotto 322RC2 pistol grip ball head
I will be getting soon
580EX
50mm f/1.4
and hopefully a 70-200 f/2.8L IS
I am looking towards the Whickey and Cox (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=211&prodType=Bag&catId=22) or the Farmers Double (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=92&prodType=Bag&catId=22).
I think a couple of you out there have the Farmers Double. How do you like it? If I do get the Farmers Double and I have a 70-200 mounted on the 20D will it fit in the bag or would I need to take it apart? I do also like the option of fitting a 17" laptop in it, although I don't have one yet. Also, would I be able to strap the tripod onto either?
The reason I ask is because I can't find a store locally that carries either bag, they carry Crumpler but neither of these models. So I can't just go in and check them out myself. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Nick

My appologies. I usually do a pretty good search but this time I was lazy. You are absolutly correct though, there is a plethora of information.
Since I was lazy before, I'll put together a list of the better threads here.
First off let me add this little bit of information:
Brians Hot Tub (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=93&prodType=Bag&catId=22) has been replaced by the Karachi Outpost (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=212&prodType=Bag&catId=22)
Shrinkle (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=90&prodType=Bag&catId=22) has been replaced with the Whickey and Cox (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=211&prodType=Bag&catId=22)
On to the threads:
This is an awsome thread put together by tlittleton about the Karachi Outpost.
Some info on Brians Hot Tub by Skippy.
Schrinkle and Brians Hot Tub thread started by Humungus, also has some info on Lowepro.
Lowepro and general bag discussion started by Fish, has some good Lowepro info and slightly touches on Crumpler.
Nikon users could check out here (http://www.asvd07.dsl.pipex.com/nikon_bags.htm), there are a lot of pictures.
Another good thread about the Farmers Double
Now onto the Crumpler salesman himself ANDY:
Complete Schrinkle Review (http://rahhali.com/photo/tools/shrinkle/) per Andy
another Schrinkle review (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=10807662) made by Andy himself
Farmers Double also by Andy
Andy's short Schrinkle review
yet another Shrinkle post by Andy
Even after looking up all this I'm still not sure if the Karachi Outpost can hold a tri-pod or not. Does anyone know?
I hope these help anyone else who's looking for a Crumpler.

Now after doing a little more research I'm looking towards the Schrinkle, Karachi Outpost, or Brians Hot Tub. What do you guys think?
Also, I saw that Brians Hot Tub (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=93&prodType=Bag&catId=22) has been replaced by the Karachi Outpost (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=212&prodType=Bag&catId=22) and
Shrinkle (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=90&prodType=Bag&catId=22) has been replaced with the Whickey and Cox (http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.php?prodId=211&prodType=Bag&catId=22). Does anyone know if Brians Hot Tub and Shrinkle have been discontinued? Their web site has said out of stock for quite a while.

farmer's double does *not* hold a tripod on the outside, but i will tell you that i can put my tripod inside, no problem, as there is an adjustable "floor" from the main compartment to the lower compartment. so, i can have my carbon fiber bogen tripod, grip/ball head, a few lenses in the main compartment, and still room for my 1Ds II and one more lens in the lower compartment.
the shrinkle is smaller - and i found myself wanting more room :D

They have been replaced as you mentioned...very little diff in the old & new.
Again i will say to buy the biggest.
There is only one true way to do this & that is to take your gear to the shop & ask to see it all in...im sure they wont mind as you are not making the bag 2nd hand.

Thanks Gus, I completely agree with you but none of the stores around here that carry them are close. I think I'm going to go to one of them today though. Hopefully I'll have a new bag by the end of the week. Thanks for the input.
Nick
The problem is that if you are like most of us then you will carry other stuff in it as well.
I can fit in the 20D & 5 lenses including the 400mm f/5.6 & small light tripod but i also carry a lens cleaning kit..keys..sunscreen...glasses..compass..snakebite kit...phone..whistle..portable HD..& im about to add a small GPS in also.
You dont want to be carrying 2 bags. Put it all in one & be done with it is my idea. They are just so comfortable on your back that the weight isnt a worry.

I am on the same train of thought as you Gus, I already carry around a bunch of other stuff like you mentioned......well minus the snake bite kit. When I was downtown Chicago a couple weekends ago my current bag broke while I was walking down the street. The shoulder strap just snapped off, thankfully I had both straps on and the bag with my camera and lenses did not fall to the ground.

Well no store in the entire Chicagoland area that I can find carries any of the crumpler bags I want to look at. Ya know in an area of 9 Million people I would think I could find a store that carries a bag I want to buy.

Yeah, I had trouble finding a bag local as well. I ended up ordering right from the australian crumpler web site.

I would have at least liked to see one in person. Every once in a while it is nice to be able to actually see and touch something before buying it.
I think I have made up my mind. I will be going with the Karachi Outpost. I was going to go for the Brians Hot Tub but I can't even find one (well actually I found one but that was on ebay) online. As far as I can tell the Karachi Outpost is basically the exact same bag. Well now to fork over the cash. I need to start getting in shape for the 2006 outing, maybe I'll just load up the bag and wear it everywhere I go.

With it fully loaded with laptop and camera gear, the Karachi can be pretty hefty. But with all the padding, it's still very comfortable.
I picked mine up off of ebay for around $160 + shipping
Thanks Andy and FastScan

I just ordered the Karachi Outpost from adorama. Now I'm excited. I've been busy this last week. I got a 28-135, 100mm Macro, 580EX, and now this. I think my wallet is going to burst into flames soon. But I'm having fun and not going outside of my means right now so it's all good. Now with all these new goodies I just have to learn how to use them. I'm off to try out the macro at a local forest preserve. Hopefully I'll find something fun to shoot.
