Nice shots. The spider wouldn't kill ya. Spiders are pretty cool. If he was poisonous (probably) and bit you you might feel a tad uncomfortable.

You really need to get over your fear of the deadly butterfly. They are not know to attack humans. :D

Nice shots. I'm not a big fan of spiders either. We have a lot of black widows in this area. I'm hoping to avoid being bit. The butterflies are plentyful here in Florida.

That's the evil jumping garden spider and you would certainly be dead within a minute of it's bite. Luckily, it can only jump 2.5 feet - it was waiting for you to get 6 inches closer!

It was very brave of you to get that close to something you fear :thumb

That is probably a Golden Orb Weaver (Argiope aurantia. A link to a pic that looks pretty similar is here: http://www.phorid.net/spiders/gallery.htm

According to this site (http://www.amonline.net.au/factsheets/orb_weaving_spiders.htm)
Orb weavers are reluctant to bite. Symptoms are usually negligible or mild local pain, numbness and swelling. Occasionally nausea and dizziness can occur after a bite. Humped Orb Weavers have very small fangs and they are timid and reluctant to bite. For the most part spiders pose little risk to humans.

Nice pics BTW,
