I set up my custom cname records today to point to a subdomain
gallery.stuntfoto.com...

The link http://gallery.stuntfoto.com works perfect

but for some reason...
http://www.gallery.stuntfoto.com doesnt work at all...

Im sure its a stupid answer I just overlooked...
Any ideas?

You're using a subdomain of "gallery". That is used instead of the www - not in addition to it.

I don't know if there is some way to get that to work, but I wouldn't expect that. If you were set up so that you could use www.stuntfoto.com (http://www.stuntfoto.com) then http://stuntphoto.com would also work. But you have said that you want to use gallery instead of www.

What Denise said.

There's no reason (unless you made a mistake typing it) that you'd want to use "http://www.gallery.stuntfoto.com". It's either "www" or "gallery", not both.

Some people insist on adding "www" to their non-custom smugmug site names too (like http://www.aerialphoto.smugmug.com). Adding the www does nothing but lengthen the URL and isn't appropriate (I haven't figured out why people do it but that's ok :) ). Smugmug filters it but that's something your DNS service would have to do with your domain name.

I think I understand...
Its not appropriate and lengthens the url, gotcha...
But why does it work on smugmug:
http://www.aerialphoto.smugmug.com
http://aerialphoto.smugmug.com
Both of those sites work just fine even though there's a www in front.

Is there some special CNAME i need to add or redirect to make it work?
I know it sounds dumb, but I want it to work...
Should I just ask my webhost?

Should I just ask my webhost? You have to map the www subdomain to your smugmug site too at your domain host.

The problem is the "www" subdomain is already going somewhere else - not smugmug.

Yup - maybe they've got a way to do it. It's called multi-level subdomains. I've tried it a couple of different ways and I can't get it to work unless both www and the other subdomains are on the same server.
