A last minute airport run for a family member put me in the city at sunset. Full moon and wonderful sunset. It was also the Chinese New Year I found out after the fact. Wish I could have got the parade.
But managed these.

Nice set. I particularly like the lighting in the last two. Nice balance between getting the details and the mood at sunset.

Great shots! :thumb I'd be happy to settle for them without the parade too!

Oops, was there a parade? That would have been cool to see, yeah, but I still love your captures. The moon trail around Alcatraz is incredible!

Very nice. Especially like #3. Bold tones, but still dreamy.

That is what I heard on the radio. There were SF Police directing traffic on Van Ness and Polk. But we were already in Suasalito by then
Is there a graduated spot ND filter to bring the moon into exposure. Or did I just give away my idea for a million dollars. Or just photoshop it

:rofl I don't think one exists, but I don't have any split ND filters myself. I am certain, however, that this idea has been at least discussed on Dgrin before, albeit a really long time ago. I'm sure there's still a market for your idea!

They are a little too overprocessed for my tastes. I just prefer more realistic HDR. These are just not "natural" enough. But great angles!

Only process was long exsposure and grad ND filter to tone down the moon. A little contrast and saturation boost. Probably ncould have warmed it up a bit but it was a blue night. this is a single image

Thanks all, the light was really phenomenal that night with the full moon rising and the sun setting really made the place glow. Nothing like a clear day on the bay

Looks like a beautiful evening. Great job in getting to your locations
and nailing the shot.
There is a reverse graduated neutral density filter by Singh Ray (http://www.singh-ray.com/reversegrads.html) that
could possibly work to tone down the moonlight. It's supposed to
be used for sunsets, but I suppose it could work for a moonrise too.

Oh but those singh ray filters are pricey, even though I have a couple on my to get list.
I have also remembered that CCTV lenses that I use for work have graduated ND spot filters in them so they can really shut down the sun when they close up in bright light. I did an autopsy on a couple old quality surplus lenses and removed them now time for experimenting. First obstacle is to find a way to deploy them.
