When you put a gallery in a community, your customization will not display. There is nothing you can do to fix it. You have two choices:
1) Have the gallery in the community without your customization.
2) Remove the gallery from the community to allow your customization to display.
Yes, this part of communities seems poorly thought through and many do complain, but that's the way it works and there is no work-around.
Here's the Smugmug help page on communities: http://www.smugmug.com/help/communities. In particular, see this part: "Note: Galleries associated with a community will either be smug default, or community default. They will not show your customization. "

Yup - that's pretty much what I said yesterday.
What I found was that extensive use of the !important element at the end of a lot of CSS syles can override the community settings. I have several galleries that have my customization and not the community's look...
Richard - as far as I know the !mportant setting forces your style for whatever it is being applied to. Perhaps John can elaborate more, or explain better why this works and how...

Can you post a link to a gallery in a community (that's not a community that you are the owner for) that has some of your own customization? According to the help page, that isn't supposed to be possible so I want to see if something's changed.

http://www.greyleafphoto.com/Galleries/CityStreet/Places/4707768_XWUm4 Ahh yes. Communities can be set by their owner to force the community look or allow your look. You must be using communities that allow your look. If Dupon24 is joining communities that don't allow a user's own look, there's no work-around to that other than convince the community owner to change the settings.

Either way - the forcing of a community look is, in my opinion, bad juju.
