Playing around with my new D70s (replacement for broken D70). I decided to shoot in RAW (NEF) format for pretty much the first time. Now that I have CS2 I can shoot RAW without extra expense.
Pretty much your basic sunrise in Lancaster County farmland with a Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish farmhouse. Ground fog just burning off. A very hot, hazy, humid day today - mid 90's with high humidity.
Question: Anyone know why the sun is soft but the rest of the shot is sharp - some kind of lens aberation?? :dunno

http://cs-pics.smugmug.com/photos/30893449-L.jpg Nice shot, I can feel the heat!
The sun is fuzzy because it is overexposed. The sharp edges are washed out. Same thing happens with the moon.
It can't be helped in a shot like this.
You can make composites. Expose one shot just for the sun and the other for the barn, etc. Then combine the two.

Thanks Shaman! I had bracketed my exposures so I had one that had a sun that was closer to correct. I extracted the sun from that shot and pasted into the first shot - a little better now.

Great job!:clap:clap Aren't you happy you bracketed?:D
It looks wonderful now... go print it and frame it! When winter comes, you'll want to gaze at it and remember how sweet & warm the summer was.

I actually like the first photo with the hazy sun. It lends the photo a more hazy lazy feel.
Lovely shot.

Interesting viewpoint, at first I thought it looked like a mistake with the hazy sun but it does give the feel of summer heat. Thanks
