Homepage Layout Help

I want to create on the .homepage the following:

(a) remove the existing .homepage #my_banner

(b) place a graphic that goes across the page (small image that will repeat-x) over the existing background image

(c) place a graphic that goes down the page (small image that will repeat-y) over the existing background image

(d) place a new vertical logo on the left-side of the page

(e) center the slideshow in the region bound by the two graphics

(f) turn-off the navabar for the homepage (or at move it to overlay the horizontal graphic). If I move the navbar then certainly I will need to change the colors, width, etc. for the homepage.

Now, (a) is easy. I already have in my custom header several extra divs defined (one for the vertical image, one for the horizontal image. and one for the additional logo. I can get the graphic to repeat across the page. I can't seem to get the other graphic to repeat down.
