Solitude

Hi - scene at sunset at the "white sands" nature reserve located at the southern edge of the Kalahari Desert in South Africa. This area is a "must" for bird-lovers and has magnificent sand dunes. Due to the soil composition of the sand, it actually growls like a lion when walking in it. This phenomenon is known to take place during the months ending with an "r".
I can vouch for the unique growling sound as I personally heard it!

Wow, great shot. I'm going for a short trip to Botswana in October, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem we'll be able to make it to the Kalahari and remain up north.
