Heres a shot of my friend dropping on x country skis. Yes X-country ski's he's crazy.

it's quite underexposed. the snow is grey and the skier is very dark.

Yup - very underexposed. I went to your smugmug gallery to check out the EXIF data from the shot and the other 3 shots in the gallery. Looks like you were in manual mode using pattern metering but had -1 exposure bias.
As you probably know, the snow really fools the light meter in the camera. When you leave the camera to its own devices, it will severely underexpose the snow - the result is gray snow. To compensate you need to add exposure over what the camera's meter thinks it needs.
When I shoot in the snow in manual mode, I will take a reading off the snow and then set the exposure to +1 to +2. You should have a big spike at the right side of the histogram. I hope this makes sense. If not, I'll try to clarify some more...bottom line is the camera gets fooled by the snow and you have to adjust for that.
