I have not seen the usual amount of birds in the neighborhood lately. :dunno I got desperate to shoos something.:D An ibis in the canal out back. Don't care for the background "junk"...but a man cannot live on an idle camera . :1drink

Those are nice clear sharp feathers.
And a good Ibis: Did the bird hit the wall, or did you, or anyone?
Smile, someone told me the other day that it was too hot for birds. Sure enough, there was a seagull panting like a dog, haven't posted it yet.

Thanks Ginger. No....the ibis DID NOT hit the wall. It was just one of those misleading perspectives from a telephoto. :D It really was flying up to the ledge of the seawall. No animals were hurt during the shooting of these pictures. :thumb I didn't hit the wall either....but did have a run in with a set of stairs. :huh
It's been hot & humid here in sunny Florida....but then again..it's summer. :1drink
The birds seem to have gone and hid somewhere ...cool?
I wish I could take credit for the sharp pics....but I think credit is due to the Canon 200mm f/2.8 "L" ....and perhaps the AF of the 20D ?

Neat shots, too bad about the backround "junk", but, at least you got the opportunity to shoot something. I took my jon boat out on the lake yesterday and found zero opportunities... guess it was too late in the AM. The dog liked the ride though.

Thanks folks. The "background junk" is always an issue when shooting out in the backyard. I asked the neighbors nicely if they'd move. :rofl *jk*. I suppose I should get off my lazy arse and go somewhere "in nature" to shoot my birds (etc.). :scratch Rumor has it there is an awsome rookery that pro photogs come to from around the world...just down the road. hehehe. Boy am I pathetic. I really want to get there. It is difficult when you can't drive...and it's a long long dangerous bike ride in the triple digit heat indexes avoiding Q-tips behind the wheel of their caddys. :dunno :rofl
**makes note to self to get to the Venice rookery soon**

Excellent flight shots and extremly well exposed. You might try opening up the aperture to blur the backgrounds when they are as busy as these are.

Thanks Harry. I follow on the shallow deapth of field. I must confess. I try and use a great DOF to help with focus errors. I should at least blur the background in photoshop. (sometimes I forget hehe) I figure getting the bird in focus is more important..and the background can always be messed with in PP. It's a tough compromise at times. Sometimes given lighting conditions...there is little choice. With this bright Florida sun (most of the time)..it's pretty easy to get a high shutter speed and a decent DOF/aperture. Even with the shallow DOF the power boxes/lines are still unpleasant to the eye/picture. I just need to take the time and remove them in PS (if the shot warrants the time/effort).
Thanks again for the comments/advice
Cheers
