A local forum posted this event, and Ed, Rayna and I headed to Crissy Field in San Francisco. A foggy day, not too much sun or blue skies at all. Probably better at Pier 39, but the parking's free at Crissy Field.

This was the first tall ship through, leading the fleet behind the fire boat. It's a Mexican ship.

Then the last boat to come through the bridge, the Russian ship.

My Sony F828 did NOT like the fog, and had a difficult time even focusing, and as a result the full size images are very noisy. A huge disappointment to me. While I took about 150 pictures, these three are the best...[IMG]

If you're in the area that is. They are spread out among 3 or 4 piers. If you go to sfgate.com and search for tall ships, you'll get the information and a map.

I tried to go to the website to get more information about the ships, but the server had reached it's bandwidth :rofl

Thank you for looking and commenting! :):

Loverly pictures. Especially the one where the top of the bridge is in the fog.

I had the same situation when the Tall Ships Race was in Antwerp last year. A bit fog and a not so very clear sky.

The russian ship is the Kruzenshtern. One of the tallest in the world.

It's the one on the left:

Anyone in the bay area the tall ships will be at the piers for boarding as well as out and about on the bay giving rides and having battle re-enactments.

Thanks for posting the photo of the ships in Antwerp. I have a hastily grabbed photo from the car of the Kruzenshtern anchored near Cliff House with it's sails rolled up -- waiting until it could start the parade. It's just a snapshot, and I try not to post those :-)

I only have pictures of them with the sails rolled up. The day they arrived I had to work, as well as the day of the parade when they left.
