View Full Version : Another call for photos!
Alright Dgrinners, as always, you guys came through in fine form with the mugs. We are working on another PR piece, and we are looking for more photos we can use for this one. This time the photos will not be printed on anything, but will be displayed online. As with the mug pictures, we will be placing copyright information on each picture to give proper credit where it is due. :andy You will still retain the copyright for the image of course, we just want the rights to display it online for this purpose.
We have a very specific theme this time as well. We are looking for shots of the 100 most recognizable/significant/unique/famous/semi-famous buildings and landmarks in Canada, the USA and the British Isles.
For example, a really stunning shot of the National Gallery in Ottawa, Edinburgh Castle in Scotland or the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor are all perfect. A picture of Andy's house is less ideal. :nono
The last day to submit an image is August 14th, so you have plenty of time to run out and get a shot of a local landmark you haven't gotten around to photographing yet. :photo
When posting (or emailing if you want), please identify the location so we know what we are looking at.
Thanks in advance, you guys are great! :lust

Hmmm as always anything that I have uploaded on my smug site is available for you guys. Right now only thing that woudl fit as a landmark would be the Golden Gate Bridge shots, I will go through my other photos at home and if there are any other good ones throw them up there tonight or tomorrow. The link for my smug site is bellow.
PS. I see the word submit but no instructions. Should people post the images in the thread here, email, or pm?

When posting (or emailing if you want), please identify the location so we know what we are looking at. Well, I'm not sure this qualifies, but it is a rather well-known landmark. You may not have known the name, but chances are when you've seen a picture of St. John, this is what you saw - haha. This is a view of Trunk Bay from North Shore Road on the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands.

WOW....
After some thought over here, and in no small part due to the awesome quality of the pictures we have already received, we are actually expanding our interest a bit.
We are looking for some shots from the rest of the world as well. However, we are looking only for the ULTRA famous places. A few good examples:
- Pyramids or Sphynx in Egypt
- St Peters Cathedral in Rome
- The Christ Statue in Rio de Janeiro
- St Basils Cathedral in Moscow
When in doubt, go ahead and post it... as we will at least get to check out more stunning photography :thumb

These are very old shots and I would have to find the cd with the originals if you want them.
I am going to be in Calgary before the 14 of August - could get a shot of the tower and/or the saddlesore if you think that is appropriate. There are truely very few Western Canadian landmarks. Could get a wheat field or two - some foothills kind of landscapes.

Few in Silicon Valley may recognize this small bit of history.
On this site sat the Del Monte Canning Company. Purchased by the
Libby's Company, the cannery was a part of Silicon Valley during a time
when agriculture was king. Canning everything from tomatoes to peaches
in its heyday, it's now home to Applied Signal.
Unfortunately, this is probably not the best light for this shot.

so far so good... I have roughly 30 photos I am interested in using here in this thread. So those of you who are saying "he will never use my photo", you can see the odds are pretty good that I will! :D Besides which, ideally I am looking for another 70 landmarks around the world in the next two weeks.
Some areas I would love a few photos from:
- Alaska
- Hawaii (I would love a higher res version of Haleakala kudbegud)
- South America (Rio de Janeiro?)
- Russia (St Basil's?)
- China (Great Wall?)
- Australia
- Africa (Egypt pyramids?)
- Italy
- A shot or two from Paris would be nice
I would also love more places in the South and SouthEast. Nebraska, Texas, Missouri, Georgia, Virginia, Kentucky... etc.
And lastly, do we not have any canucks? :rofl
You guys are a huge help, I just figured I would spell out what I was still looking for so that people with those photos can (hopefully) step forward. I know some of you didn't submit a lot of those above because I didn't initially ask for them. My bad. :rolleyes

Hmmm.... You mention Virginia. I'm in the Fredericksubrg area. There are several civil war historical sites around here. There's also "Ferry Farm" (where Washington supposedly chopped down the cherry tree). I could possibly even go up farther north to Mount Vernon if any of those interest you... (I don't currently have any worth sharing).

I don't know how photogenic any of those sites are, but that is definitely the type of thing we are looking for.
Ok, I'll try to get out and see if I can come up with something.
In the meantime, how about a shot from the Appalachian Mountains (Skyline Drive to be more specific).

wow, these are some awesome shots. I especially love the one of Rideau Canal in Ottawa. I have 42 shots selected now, and I will see about making a gallery soon to show which shots I have chosen. So we are almost halfway there. :D

Well, you know I am in the SE USA, Charleston, SC. With Ft Sumter (Civil War),
Ft Moultrie (Revolutionary War), and a large navy aircraft carrier at Patriot's Point, from WW2 (The Yorktown).
We have Morris Island lighthouse. Many churches. Old streets, houses, the ocean, Atlantic (pretty well known), etc.
I almost asked what you wanted a minute ago. If I were going to give you one re a war, such as in the first paragraph, I would have to shoot it this week. I don't do wars in my own personal life. But these are HUGE tourist attractions and a large part of history. Charleston was a major player in much of early American history.

#12 Summer evening at the Castle. Banff National Park, Canada
This is Castle Mountain from the Bow River with late evening light.
Castle Mountain is halfway between Banff and Lake Louise along the Bow Valley Parkway. Named by James Hector in 1858. The mountain was named for its fortress or castle-like appearance. Despite the appropriateness of Dr. Hector’s name and the fact that it had been used for almost one hundred years, the mountain was renamed Mount Eisenhower in 1946 in honour of American General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during the final year of World War II. The decision to rename Castle Mountain was made by Prime Minister Mackenzie-King on the day before the President was to pay a visit to Ottawa. As much as Eisenhower was respected, this arbitrary decision so enraged the Alberta government that it immediately formed its own geographical names board. It took thirty-three years and an Albertan as Prime Minister before Castle Mountain regained its original name in 1979. As a compromise, the prominent tower on the southern end of the mountain was given the name Eisenhower Peak.
