It seems that no more than 5 text-lines can be used to explain the gallery. When I'm right is there any possibility to make more text or should a link to a weblog in which it can be stored be the only possibility?

I'm not aware of a limit for a gallery description. Could you add a link to the gallery in question and let us know what text you could not add? Where did you try to add it? Does it include any html code?
Instead of putting all text in the gallery description, you could also set the gallery to 'journal (old)' style and add one or more photos to it. Then you could add text as the captions of the photos as well to get a nice paragraph flow going along with photos.

I haven't run into a limit yet, and I use html-only galleries extensively - with the entire gallery contents placed in the description.
If the contents of the description include html, you must start the description with a <html> tag and end it wish a </html> tag.

Please include the link to your specific gallery. In the past, there has been a limit, but it's around 32k of text, so hundreds of lines of text should be no problem. This is more likely a formatting issue, but we can't help without a link to the specific gallery.

I started playingaround a bit and I think that the problem was that I coppied the text from another album (not SmugMug) and pasted into Word. Later I restored the links at the SmugMug recipe but, as I'm always automatically using Word, I remembered that I have had problems before with my weblog and another site. The recommendation was never to use Word for these things because of being (over)loaded with useless stuff but to use Notepad.
It works now fine: http://mistifarang.smugmug.com/History/Dutch-New-Guinea/Dutch-New-Guinea/10740516_mE4i7#748488700_ejAtM
Thanks for the reactions and ideas!
