Pete, a photographer buddy and I took the 6:30am ferry from Nanaimo over to the mainland and then drove up the Sea to Sky Highway to Squamish and Brackendale to look from some Bald Eagles. The Eagles gather in the area from Mid-December to late January to feed on the late salmon runs on the Squamish River, the Manquam River, and the Cheakamus River. Every year Brackendale holds an Eagle count for the area. The highest count ever was in 1994 when they counted almost 4000 eagles. Here are some of my shots from our day on the rivers. All of my eagle shots were hand-held, using a Bigma at the full 500mm, and at 800-1600 iso.
