I converted the first couple of pics to black and white. I like the
curves of the first, but am not sure if the background is distracting.

I think this is a pretty amusing shot :): . The bridge shaped like a trash can!

I love #2 BUT #3 shows an great creative viewpoint - I'm torn between the two. Technically #2 is a much better shot and very pleasing to view. #3 shows a neat concept of "curves".

I like #2, best. Even for curves.

all good shots.

I think #3 is very amusing. It would get some smiles if it was hung on the wall. But #2 is the better photograph. Great composition and right on the money for curves. Great shot. :thumb

I agree with the group...#2 is definately well-shot. I think #3 has potential though. I would love to see a re-shoot of it in different lighting maybe. It reminds me of a shot I saw once of half-dome in Yosemite with a trash can in the forground that looked exactly like it. the angle of the trash can is appealing.

Next time around I'll give the #3 another go. Any suggestions on how
it may be improved?

#2 and #3 are both fun (#2 is better). I just wish you hadn't cropped them so tight. :thumb

Hmmm...well, maybe wait until the light is really cool (sunset, etc)...that way the sky will have some character without being to distracting... Maybe a night shot with a long exposure..if there's enough light on the bridge...you could wave a flashlight past the surface of the trash can during the exposure to give a nice effect... Just throwing out some crazy ideas.
