SO I have wedding pics I want to upload and have already given the url and password to everyone. Now I originally was just going to do one big gallery, but then thought it'd be nicer for them to split it up into separate galleries in one subcategory. The problem is I'd like to put a password on the subcategory I created instead of making them enter the code for all the smaller galleries. is that possible?

Just put the password on the galleries - Smugmug does not have password-protected categories or sub-categories. If you use the same password on all the galleries in the sub-category, then the viewer will only have to enter the password once for the first gallery they open. Subsequent galleries with the same password will just open.
I use this technique all the time for sports seasons where I have a sub-category for the team's season and 15-20 galleries (all with the same password) that represent the season's photos. My viewers have had no problems.
