OK, one day w/o dGrin was one thing, but when it was today, too. Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I will admit.

My name is ginger, and I am addicted to dGrin.

Addiction is not a problem as long as the object one is addicted to is available, but dGrin just went away.............

I even e-mailed smugmug in the middle of the night. I also posted on FM. Then I went to a sleep from which I just woke up, and that was early afternoon.

No one else seems to have mentioned this situation nor have gone through the withdrawal I did.

I suppose my questions are

1) Did it bother anyone else that dgrin was down?

2) I know it will go down again, but that was a very long time for something like this to be down........IMO.
So, could someone kind of explain what happened, so I will be less anxious re why it happened and the chances of it happening again. I have been a member for over a year, and I have never experienced this before. Not of this magnitude.

3) Would it help if you had a "paying members" type situation?

4) Is there going to be post traumatic stress counseling for this situation? No, I am not making fun.......

I too couldn't get on for the last couple days. I was forced to spend more time at that "other" place, which just isn't the same. I found myself sitting at the computer with nothing to do:rofl

Just goes to show what a great place this is and how everybody here helps to make it that way. Thanks to one and all:thumb :clap

Yeah so. I couldn't get on either and it was rather dismaying. So I emailed some good people and ben got back to me. dgrin.com was having registry problems. Type out the full name digitalgrin.com. And wouldn't ya know I was back on this morning perfectly. Even though dgrin.com was still defunct.

Just remember digitalgrin.com works and heres a tip so if there's a problem you guys can figure it out on your own possibly next time.

dnsstuff.com

great website that most us webgeeks who make a living at webdesign know about. Lets you run dns traces, reports, routing, etc. etc. etc. So you can tell if it is a problem with the domain name, or the servers. The servers seemed to be fine as smug was up and my smug site was fine to knew it had to be dns. Which is kinda odd cause the domain name doesn't expire anytime soon.

Jeff!

I don't have a son sitting here to spend time with. And I had no idea of what was going on..........

If we are going to plan these things, well, please let me in on the planning, too.

I am going to get all of your e-mail addresses, so I can e-mail you all to find out when and what is happening.

And when I e-mailed smugmug, I did receive a very nice e-mail back, even though it was midnight, my time. But it did not mention the trick of digitalgrin.com I wish I had known that. Or that someone had posted something somewhere......like on the smugmug dgrin group. Just somewhere that we would know to look.

I was thinking of you all, believe me, I was. But it was frustrating to come to the computer, check my mail, sit here, think "no, I am not going to check again", then I would, and it takes time for the server thing to time out.

And if I had gone to the geek site, that would not have helped, as I couldn't have interpreted the results.

I will remember digitalgrin.com, but it worked this time, what if it doesn't next time. I don't know why it worked this time.

Lynn, you asked me once why I put myself through all this stuff to continue with photography....................I guess it is the excitement of "sharing" it on dGrin.

Not that I wouldn't take a photo otherwise, but does a tree falling in the forest make noise if no one is there to hear it?? Remember that old question.
Well, what is an unseen photo?

I'm "pleased" to hear this was a general problem. I tried several times on Sat & Sun, with no luck. The worst was being able to upload pics to smugmug, but not being able to see dgrin :cry

glad to have it back (and of course all of you :lust)

I went to digitalgrin.com as well (that worked for me before) I'm one of those that try everything but doesn't necessarily know why? I just wondered where everyone had gone... the place was empty :dunno

You mean the one that all my photos are on: the ones I should have put on a DVD a long time ago?

My, just woke up and I already am worried re the ending of the world (or the loss of all my photos..............or mega amts of work putting together my DVD thing, getting it to work and doing a yrs worth of photos.)

:cry guess, the world will end after all,
ginger

I did lose a "server" once. It went pop, and I lost a whole address........let it go, but the experience was weird. I mean I had two e-mail addresses, one being comcast.com/net, whatever, and then I didn't, very suddenly.

I still have comcast, but my e-mail comes to aol.

I suppose that next someone will say that I could wake up and find my camera not working right?

Hi Ginger,
I'm addicted too. I don't have as much time as I did while I was recovering from my heart problem, but I'm here every chance I get. My DH even cooks dinner sometimes because I won't come out of my "cave". I've been setting up stuff to take "still life" shots for several days now. It's really no fun if you can't share it with someone.

I didn't know about using "digitalgrin.com" so I too was I the dark. I have not seen a lot of the old members recently anyway, so I feel kind of lonely. I'm glad we have so many new members, but I miss my old friends. Where is everyone?

So, I'm working on the current challenge.:rolleyes I'm trying out my new lenses and my almost new camera. I'm learning a lot, but getting very frustrated too. I'm trying to set up some lighting stuff too. I usually use window light for these things. I like the warm light. But, I'm trying to broaden myself. So, I'm going to ask for some help on the challenge thread. If anyone has a little time, I'd appreciate some feedback. Be honest with me. I need to learn. Thanks in advance. Glad we're all back.:lust
