The first is a macro of a Lilly Stamen

This lille lady is called a Cow Killer, the sting is so bad it is said that it could kill a Cow. This lady was drying of from a thunder shower.

This is the eye of a Cicada, we get them here every year.

Very nice macros Pete, all of them. Great colors and sharpness. Really like that stamen shot! About that ant... When I went to Kentucky two summers ago we saw this huge red and black ant, and was told that even if you stomp on them, that just makes them angry.

AJ Yep... Velvet Ants. They are a wingless wasp.
I see them close to streams usually. (I live in Kentucky)
Never been stung by one though...

Beautiful subjects aren't they?
Excellent job Pete!!:clap:clap:clap

Fred, yes these ants are difficult to capture as they keep moving all the time, colors are great though.

Thanks

Aj, not sure why but this seems to be a good time of year to see these ants? I agree they sure look tough. I never get too close just in case.:uhoh

Excellent work......... the little red and black bug sorta looks like a hairy fluffy ant doesn't it.....hmmmmmmm I shall try and remember what they look like so I will know to steer clear of them :D

We didn't get many Cicada's this summer at all, maybe it was because of the drought, I dunno :dunno usually they are soooooo dang loud they are annoying if you leave the back door open at night because the sound they make is so loud.

Lovely series of Macro's Pete...... Skippy (Australia)

Not sure why some years there are more than others:dunno . We have also had less rain than usuall ( 10 inches down on normal this month). They still seem to be out in force. Who knows?????
