I am sure someone here can tell me what kind of heron this is? Pics taken of Islamorada at low tide.

Pete it is a dark morph i do not remember seeing one here before may be wrong on that ,very nice set of shots :thumb :clap

Cool looking Heron! If I was a Heron i'd be happy to have a tough sounding name like "Dark Morph". The first shot is the bestest in my books. :):

Hey Pete,
That ain't no heron that's a Reddish Egret. According to my Smithsonian Guide they are rare to uncommon as they were nearly killed off by plume hunters. As of 2002 the total US population was 2,000 pairs.
