I use an older Canon DSLR for everyday shooting, but I need a lightweight P&S digital that captures RAW images for my next venture. I'm also an avid R/C airplane flyer/builder and I just purchased a rig made for Aerial Photography. My weight limit is 10 oz. for the camera. I'd prefer to shoot RAW for PP, and IS seems to be un-desirable according to some of the R/C forums I've read.

Any ideas?

Basically, pick any canon P&S that fits your size requirements and apply the CHDK hack (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK)

Whoa! I'm not a computer guru and don't know about hacking, but I know a 16 year old who could probably do it :wink . Thanks.

G9 or G11, but both are too heavy for your needs. If you go with them though, choose the G9, it has time lapse video capabilities left out of the G10/G11's.

+1 on selecting any small canon you like (I use an SD880 and love it) and then load up CHDK. No worries with having to "hack" much...you just copy a few files to your SD card and turn on the camera...then load the new program from a menu. Check out the wiki on it...very easy and you get a ton of features.

I tried to find the 880 on B&H, but I guess it's been discontinued.

Check out the new Canon S90, it's got a slightly bigger sensor, manual and priority modes and weighs 6.2 oz (without the battery).

Might be too nice a camera to put into an RC-plane though.

Another trick you could try, buy cheap ebay batteries, these batteries sometimes have less power, one would think that this might mean they have less physical battery inside. This may lead to a reduced weight.

Run the camera off the planes battery via a regulator and a lobotomized ac-adapter.

Ooh, that looks nice! Not too nice, but maybe a bit pricey right now.
