Several days of rain has resulted in a number of interesting mushrooms cropping up in our back yard. Would appreciate any criticism. Thanks

Cool pic.
You would of benifitted by knocking the exposure comp down a few ticks. The whites are blown out.

Thanks for the critique. How does this look?

Not the same. Now it's dark and the colors look muted. That's why getting the exposure right when taking the pic is key. Yes you can adjust during raw processing, but it should only be minor adjustments.
With digital cameras, the silicon sensor tends to be more sensitive to blow out. I normally always have my bias knocked down when outside and knocked down at minimum -0.67 in full bright sunshine.

Isn't macro work fun?
Your shot shows off the perspective nicely. The whites in this shot are a bit
over exposed. Not sure where you metered the shot--but try maybe 1/3
stop correction to start with. Also, the shot would benefit, in my opinion,
from a bit wider angle so we could see more of the ground cover.
Opening up the shot just a bit will give the viewer a better idea of the
size comparison and it will help with the perspective. By compensating for
the large area of white, you'll help the camera's meter give you better
exposure.
Glad you're enjoying the macro work. Look forward to seeing more!

:thumb Thanks Ian & Jim, I appreciate the input. I really am enjoying attempting macro. Just as I'm getting a little proficient with my S1 IS, I've ordered a Rebel XT. Looking forward to a new learning curve.

Although we've had a couple of hot, dry days, my mushrooms have managed to survive. Considering some of the critique of my first efforts, I've tried again, and came up with this. I'd appreciate your comments.
Thanks,
George

Photo seems a bit out of focus. But your getting there!
