Shot with a D40x, 70-300vr f/4.5-5.6G, and circ polarizer. Shutter priority at 1/400 - 1/500sec, ISO 400 (couldn't go any lower as the lens was wide open for most of the shots).

I really like the shot of 388. Looking at the bike/rider shadow I'm surprised you got that much face showing. I'd like to know what kind of lens, if its a "fast" lens, I'm assuming you were not using flash. Shooting MX has been a struggle to try and remember to shoot the "lit" side as opposed to the "dark" side and again you've got great face here.

And I really like the shot, concentration, on the GAS! :thumb

And not a rock in sight??? Nice track.

The lens is the Nikon 70-300vr f/4.5-5.6G, so not really "fast" glass, but I thought it did pretty well. With the circ polarizer I had to bump the ISO to 400 to keep the shutter speed around 1/500. For rider 388 the sun was lighting the scene from the side (see the shadow) and the ground was bright which I think helped fill the front of the rider. Of course in Lightroom I had to bump up the "fill light" quite a bit (shooting in RAW helped).

They did a good job, but there were definitely some rocks:
