View Full Version : Little Stowaway

I drove to the store this evening, and when I came out to get in my car, I discovered a little stowaway on my fender. I knew that I couldn't catch him, so I figured he'd just have to hold on, like he did for the ride to the store. (I've seen this peculiar marked lizard for some time at the house, so I knew where he came from)
I think this isn't his first ride, because when I started driving, he moved up on the windshield wiper. Stayed there taking in the sights until we were up to speed. (55mph) He then simply tucked down under the back of the hood, out of the wind.
We got home safely & he emerged, moved down the fender and jumped about 3' into some bushes at the house.
Ok, it's not all story, here are some pics. We have three basic images. The first of each is a crop of the second.
These were taken with a 5DMkII & 24-105L lens. Images only had a curves adjustment in LR2 and a camera profile change on the second one. (just learned about "camera profiles" in LR2. I notice that whatever I set the second one to turned my red Mini, orange)
Gotta' love the resolution of the 5DMkII that allows for such a huge crop.

Bike... that's a good idea! Maybe he can ride up on the front and catch those bugs before they splat in my teeth :rofl

Hey Craig,
This is the kind of risk you fella's/gal's take with me carrying my camera around, even to the store. Good thing the lizard was there to photograph, or you would have been looking at a shopping cart instead :rofl

Thanks,
I thought I'd share the lizard, but when cropping, I figured I'd also share the original so that non 5DMkII users can see how much you can crop with the huge files the camera produces.

Thanks gecko0,
Is this a distant cousin?
I'd actually like to have a fake chartreuse lizard on my grill right there. It does look good :thumb

Nice shots of the little travel-happy lizard. The grill of your car makes a great background.

I'd be screaming all the way home if I saw that on my windshield.
Nice photos Randy -- the one on the grill is really good. My 24-105 is jealous now...it wants to be on a camera like yours :rofl

Thanks Azzaro,
That's the only one I was originally going to post, then I included the other ones just to show the "crop-ability" of the 5D2 images.

I was out in the yard today and I think that I spotted a little bitty suitcase. He normally eats smaller insects, but I think he's caught the travel bug now :rofl

Your lens is jealous? ~ Mine's depressed...
I made the mistake of leaving my camera/lens on the desk while viewing great images posted here on dgrin, now they're depressed. I promissed that I'd try harder :dunno :rofl

Hey Randy
Cool little friend you have there, nicely captured. Love the first and last images especially. Also that Mini is very sweet but I must say I'm feeling a bit disillusioned. I had you figured for a muddy F150 standard cab with bench seat. Tearin' around the Texas outback with a Winchester hangin' in the rear window and a hogleg strapped to your thigh. :D
BTW check your PM

Hey Jack,
Welcome back!!!!!!!
Yeah, that whole $4.00 gal price thing sidetracked me for a while. I've had trucks most of my life, just thought I'd check some other cool rides out for a bit.
Take care

Thanks Neil,
The original pic I was posting was #1, then I figured, since this is also a curious group, I'd include the others to show how much you can crop with a lot of resolution available.
I think your right though. I also like 1b.

Thanks Lee,
Not sure I feel confident in buying insurance from a little guy thats hanging on to my car while I'm driving. I'm not a lizard, but that seems a little reckless all the same... :rofl
