We had our 5 year anniversary so we got gussied up to hit nice restauarant..Manresa in Los Gatos..awesome stuff. Set up the the umbrella/reflector for a quick shot before we stepped out the door.

Experienced something weird..my shots were fairly underexposed (TTL flash) so I had to bump the exposure comp by 1.3 stops and go higher ISO..and still I had to expose another 1/2 stop in post. I don't think the flash was limited..not sure what was going on.

Hola Qarik,
I can't stop staring at the giraffe legs--I'm guessing that can't be a good thing.
Also I get what you are saying about the lighting but I don't know how you could fix that.
I do like the tighter shot btw--just the crazy legs are so out of place.

Believe it or not, shots like this will turn out way better with flash on camera, bounced riding the exposure comp. Using the wall and ceiling makes for soft, BIG light. Agree w/ the giraffe legs...LOL. Happy Anniversary!

I think the TTL metering was fooled by all those light-color legs and jacket.

That is what I am thinking. I am going to try again tonight with center weighted or spot meter.

lovely lady. But what is "quick" about an umbrella/off-camera flash shot?? :)
I agree with the other comments.

haha..the sb900 is about 15 sec faster then the Sb600...one flick of the switch. My on camera flashes are always set at commander and all teh channels and groups are preset on both camera and flash. No thinking involved. Setup time was < 2 min.
Thanks

Same here. Everything is set for quick set up with off camera. Even if I just have the one flash hand held off to the side, it's wonderful.
Beautiful wife (of course). Happy anniversary.
