It was a nice day today, so that means "Ride". A couple of buds came over and we rode 202 miles for some BBQ. Yum...

Here are some pics from the day.

1) I got a bit ahead of them and took a shot as they went by. They were on me before I knew it, so I didn't have time to setup my exposure for a nice panning (blur) shot.

2)

Found an old shut-down gas station along the way, so we stopped for some pictures.

As a Honda rider, I'm always teasing and getting teased by the Harley guys. It's all good fun, no malice.

But, I'll be able to use this picture from now on!!! ~~~ Priceless...

The copy I sent him had the text plastered on the image: Yep, it's a Harley :rofl

3) And no, the image wasn't posed

Gee -- you get to ride around all day with a good bunch of guys, take photos, and then eat bbq! What a life!

Reminds me of a lifetime ago when I had a bike...

Thanks for sharing.

Nice ride! Very inconspicuous:D --not surprised from seeing how you like some of shots nicely cooked.

Like your series and since I am currently in a cubicle as we speak, it hit the spot, living vicariously through you at the moment Randy.

Hey Rainbow,

There has to be balance in life...

Since you couldn't go riding around and chowing down on some good Texas BBQ, I HAD TO DO IT FOR YOU ~ BALANCE :rofl

I am literally cracking up right now.
That is so not what I expected:D .

I imagined a truck circa 1969 all souped up in about the same color as your bike.

Thanks for the chuckle and for reminding me not to judge a book by its cover.

I've had trucks for most of my adult life. This was a knee jerk reaction to the $4.00 gal gas prices. I must say though: This little scamp (Cooper S - Turbo) is a blast to drive!

I'll probably go back to a Jeep Rubicon. Loved my last one - all but the "lack" of gas mileage :thumb

Randy,

Great pictures. I mean, really, does it get any better than getting a couple of buds together and hawling butt on a long ride to some great food? I don't think so. I've done it many times.

Ride safe,

Tom

I agree Tom, there's only a handful of things that can measure up to a good ride w/friends and some good food to boot!

We're saving some good ol' Texas BBQ for you when you finally make it over here :thumb

Hey Craig,

Yeah, there's some good riding down around Glen Rose.

Your wife would love the Mini. Just make sure she gets an S (sport - turbo) model. She might not care, but you'll have a blast in it! And, even though the S model doesn't get as good of gas mileage as the standard model, it still gets 40mpg if you set the cruise on 70mph.

My buds have already placed their "order" :rofl

And a good sense of humor: They LOVED the "checking the leak" shot.

Life just doesn't get any better, Randy. A nice set of beautiful bikes ridden by good friends for great food! Great photos, too! :clap

If you're ever in the Los Angeles area, after I stop feeling sorry for you I'll take you to Hungry Al's BBQ. Louisiana style and friends keep taking me to other BBQ houses, but none of them ever measure up!

Have a great evening: I feel something nasty and painful building up in my head, so I'm off to Nyquilland.

Take care!

Thanks Michael,

I'd like to go back to the old station at night, where I wouldn't have to fight daylight reflections. But, one old coot already tried to charge us for shooting there... and it wasn't even his building :scratch

After having black bikes, I decided that I needed one that everyone could see.

Hey Lee,

Better be careful what you say, Ol' Yeller' and I were over in your part of the world (Big Sur, Sequoia, Yosemite) a couple of years ago, so it COULD HAPPEN my friend :thumb

Thank you. So far, I'm doing pretty well keeping this thing under control. I took the Nyquil and did the Zicam thing last night and I felt well enough to go to work, today. I get little whiffs of it, now and then, but I'm doing well.

GREAT series, Randy! I can just sense the fun and "male bonding" you had that day.

And very insightful to see both your yellow bike and red Mini--the Mini took me aback for a moment but then I started to think about it. The bike says you love your freedom but the Mini says you have a grounded and practical side. The colors are an acknowledgement to your artistic view of the world.

Where was the BBQ place?????? We (adopted) Texans want to know which one was good enough to make you ride 200 miles. :scratch BTW, where again do you live? I somehow thought it was Midland--maybe that was from my earliest look at your work, which was the oil fields. :dunno

As for being able to tell a lot about people by what they drive: that would make a great thread! "Guess what I drive?" Let a few people answer and then post a pic and see who got it right.

Cheers,
Lauren

When gas was $4.00+ per gallon, the Rubicon was killing me. To go 247 miles cost me about $76.00 :huh ~ The same miles & pricing cost me $28.00 in the Mini.

This Mini Cooper S (turbo) is a blast to drive! It thinks its a sports car. But, since gas has gone back down, I wish I had my Rubicon back. I do like 4-wheelin' when I go to Colorado.

Thanks for the comments

Hey Lauren,

I take it you've not driven a Mini Cooper S (turbo) ~ It is practical for the gas mileage, but that's about it. ~ With it's zippy performance and great handling, you have to constantly keep out of the sights of the lawman :rofl

As for the colors: Yes, that's how I see the world :thumb

I don't really remember the name of this particular BBQ joint in Glen Rose, but the eating place isn't really why we ride over 200 miles. On a bike, it's the ride that counts, the destination is just someplace at the end of the ride, or half-way thereabouts.

Now, I will tell you; If you want some AWESOME BBQ, go to the "Hard 8 BBQ (http://www.hardeightbbq.com/)" in Stephenville, TX. They evidently have two other locations that I've not been to. But, there's good riding down toward Stephenville.

I live in the D/FW metroplex, or as we say; metro-mess

Yeah, that would be a fun and interesting thread ~ Where did you start it at?

Thanks for your comments!

Love me some MINI Cooper too. Mine is the Dark Silver/Gray S with the Lounge Leather Interior. I traded my BMW 3 Series for it. Been a Bimmer owner for 12 years and got the 2009 Mini about 2 months ago. I LOVE that car. It's one happy drive.

Maybe we can get a car forum although a Dog/Cat forum is needed too. Maybe a food forum would work. BBQ would go nicely. Dr. Hoogley Wogly Tyler Texas BBQ is big around these here parts ...

I've been up to McGhees Catfish Restuarant (http://www.swaviator.com/html/issueJJ00/burgerjj00.html)before, although I just stumbled upon it one day out riding. I'll have to head up there again soon.

Nice shots...I ride an '06 dark red wing myself. Anyway, my only nit is in #3 & #4 the colors are different. In one, the bike looks black and the other it looks blue. Also look at the color of the reflector/light on the front fender...different colors also.

Yep, that's what happens when you don't use actions of presets. Also why a lot of folks don't post more than one image at a time, so you can't compare.

Put yourself out there and people are gonna' nail you on it :rofl

I'm really more careful when it's a paying gig, these lugs just ain't gonna' pay :D
