I think only Ann has the camera and, after battery charging and such, she's probably still giggling too hard to type. :wink :thumb

HeeHee.
I got home about 2 yesterday and put the battery in the charger, and started my shift. I finished work and was going to read the manual when Nik Skyped me and so we chatted half an hour, then I went to sleep. Now I am about to start a shift, so I won't even put a lens on the camera until tonight - and Nik's gets to him today.
I am not a pixel peeper/measurabater anyway, so what you are going to hear from me is:
It feels good in my hands.
The controls are intuitive and easy although different than the other 2 cams I have.
and then some photos once I get a lens on and some time!

No need to charge battery,Just use one from 5D MK2:wink
Just a few test shots and I love the view finder.
Noise is not an issue and will work perfect for low light nature shots.
Seems to have a few features from the 1D MK3 series.
Oh and the shutter sound.....................:super

First thing I notice is the change to how ISO is selected - from the large back wheel to the small front one. I change ISO on the fly in games, and this requires two hands. This is a minus for me

Ann, correct me if I'm wrong but was't ISO ALWAYS been controlled by the front wheel? :scratch
Of course, I have no experience with 1D line, but I always had it this way through 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 5D2...

Hmmm, you are right Nik - even on the 1d it is the front button, and a two hand, three finger process. Not sure what I was thinking about. Just seemed awkward, but clearly I can adapt.

I still don't get it... Why two hands and three fingers? :huh
you look into VF
your right index finder locates and presses ISO button (seconf from the right; first is light, so if nothing happens, slide a bit furhter)
same right index finger slides to the main (front) dial and starts adjusting ISO while ovserving the value in the VF
one you done, slide your right index finger back to the shooting positionWhy would one need second hand and more than one finder for this? :scratch

I meant on the 1d - the ISO button is on the left, and requires pressing 2 buttons, then right hand changes setting.

Alright, I have taken about 100 shots thus far, and am probably doing a big disservice by also doing a test run with the TC I just bought this week at the same time.
I am running in to a learning curve - settings and buttons are not in the same places.
I thought I had set up to shoot JPEG and RAW but apparently not.
I cannot figure out if I can replicate the CFn 4-3 setting I use for sports with the 1dMkIIN -to use the back star button for focus, so find myself trying to use it and wondering why I am not focusing.
I think I will be spending much time RTFM this week.
Good news is that the boys will play an indoor soccer exhibition game this weekend so I will be able to test shoot, side by side, with the 1dMkIIN in the worst shooting conditions I see on a regular basis.
I am exporting photos ATM and will link to my first shots after Criminal Minds is over!

Thanks in advance.I really haven't looked hard at stills yet. I figure a lot of people will do that so I went after the video.
One intangible for me is I shoot kids who move around a lot. For example, at Disney last week I had a 50mm on the 5D MKII and was sortof playing hide 'n seek with Leia, with her bobbing to the left and right. I'm surprised how few shots i could get off in focus with her bobbing and weaving, and can't help but wonder what I missed by not having a faster camera:

I would gladly trade off slight image quality to get more frames and a better chance at the fleeting smile I may have lost.

So forgive the muddle of shots, but if you want to see sequential shots of birds at the feeder or my dog, that is where they are at. A few that I like:
Cat inside the house, me outside. 1.4xTC and the 300mm lens

I am doing some real estate shots tomorrow so may have more to post.

Canon does not have a fast focusing 50mm prime. I think the EF-S 17-55mm, f2.8 IS USM is about as fast as you can get in that range, but the 70-200mm "L" zooms are amazingly fast and would be my recommendation for a similar FOV (at 70mm).

Looks really good in those shots. They were properly exposed, of course, which helps. Which leads me to....
Ann, if you (or anybody else who's got the camera) get any high ISO shots that are slightly underexposed - you know, the kind of shots one tends to wind up with in the situations which demand high ISOs!! - could you share? I know these are always the shots where my xsi really lets me down - it HATTTEESSSS being underexposed, and boy, does it show!
Thanks SO much to all of you "early adopters" for letting the rest of us see what the new kid on the block is like. All kidding aside, I know it must be a pain to have us breathing down your necks, and I for one appreciate your willingness to share with us all! :thumb

For me the big test will be indoor soccer, and we are 2 weeks away from that, sadly. I suppose I could go creep around the indoor centers or a hockey arena and take some random shots, but I am going to be in Acadia for a week! so probably won't get them done.
Per the histogram, there are some underexposed shots - check the early dog shots:
http://www.annmcraephotography.ca/photos/666443847_57qUe-L.jpg
Not as bad as the indoor shots I am used to taking, but underexposed and not yet processed to correct, so don't know how it would survive processing.

Can't say they underexposed, but they are high ISO at the brink of the non-being able to see what I'm shooting (see the exif in the gallery)
