Ohhhhhhhh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy :clap :clap
I am so happy with my Canon 24mm 1.4 Lens, having tried it out on night shots for the first time on Sunday Night, I am still going through the images from our night out.

Here are three shots, all taken with the Canon 24mm, all in Aperature Mode, tripod used, and silly me I left the remote at home on the bench :dunno so I had to use the self timer........enjoy Skippy (Australia)

I asked for some advice, and Andy suggested I go for the Canon 24mm 1.4, and I am just so pleased with the way it is performing.
I specifically brought it for my trip to USA which is only 4 weeks away now, glad I got a chance to try it out with night shots before I go away.

Glad you like them 4labs.......I'm glad I am progressing slowly, this makes me very happy indeed........ take care... Skippy (Australia)

I've seldom seen night shots as "alive" as these are. I, too, have a love for WA lenses. I just got the 0.7X WA for my V1, giving me the 35mm equivalent focal length of about 24mm. I use that lens more than the tele and almost as much as the "naked" V1 lens.

Lets see more of your night shots! :clap :clap :clap :clap

Ohhhhhhhhh *blush*blush* I'm still learning I've only had this lens for a couple of weeks, this is my second attempt at night shots, we're going to go back again.......need to see what a clear night will produce, it was so cloudy the sky was an odd colour because of the city lights reflecting into them.

This is my first wide angle lens, I need to give it a whirl on landscapes now :D
Take Care......thank you for your comment........ Skippy (Australia)

This was a second attempt, as the previous attempt we were too far away from the City itself to actually get the shots we wanted to get.

Being right there was where we needed to be the first time around :rofl
Now we need to try it on a clear night, and with a nice sunset :D but alas I work shift work :dunno

Thank you for your comment, glad you liked them...... Skippy (Australia)

hey Skippy,

when the time comes if you want some how-to on astrophotography, let me know! Moon is tough unless you are hooking up to a small 8" telescope or have a really awesome telephoto.

interesting...you are from Australia, but visiting Montana. I have 2 friends here in Tucson, one of which is from Australia and they are getting married in her hometown in Montana this August...eery Montana/Australia connection.

Agree with a previous poster. These shots are so alive. Stupid question, but what settings do you use on the camera to get that sharpness and the stars?
Do you need a tripod? (I hate shooting with tripod, I need to be able to move)
If this question is too stupid, laugh in silence... grin
I know they never ask a painter what brushes they used... I hate it when people ask me what camera I use, as if the camera is the thing...
But hey, I have never tried shots like that (and doubt I ever will) but it would be a great thing to be able to try it... A bit hard to find citylights here in UK like the city you were in, tell us your secret O master of the big night scenery

Hi Aj......... we had a great time, left here at 2.30pm and got home at midnight, we'd walked for over 6 hours and hadn't even realized it :rofl

It's somewhere we will be going back to for sure.... thank you for your comment......I am really happy with how this lens performs.

Skippy,

We arrived in Melbourne early and walked around for ages trying to see where we needed to be once it got dark........ the potential to get excellent dusk shots is there, but we only got one shot in before we realized how late it had already gotten with all our walking around.

Imagine that same shot with a beautiful pink sky :rolleyes yup we need to go back there again on a clear night.....it had rained several times that day, and we considered not driving up to Melbourne and just cancelling the trip till another time, but I'm glad we didn't :D

Thank you for your kind words......... Skippy (Australia)

You definitely need a tripod it is a MUST and silly me I left my remote release on the bench so that meant I had to use the Self Timer < ---- now this is annoying cause you can't trigger it off when you want to, you have to wait for it to count down before it fires.

The Stars are from using F22 ...... I used the camera in Aperature Mode, and shot in RAW......now lemme tell you something if you can shoot in RAW do it, took me ages to move to RAW, one I didnt have a program that I knew how to use to view and edit them, and two I was very unsure about what I was doing.

Now I use it for everything....it gives you so much control after the shot has been taken to do adjustments.

I have found using RAW the shots need very little post processing.
Hope this information was of some help to you :D Skippy (Australia)

Shay I am glad to have been able to ask you about the lens pre to buying it, I talked to Andy and you and a couple of other people before making my decision.

I've tried hard not to double up on distances with my lenses, and found out when I attended the Air Show here that a 50mm lens is just not wide enough to allow you to fit much in a scene at all.

I am just so pleased with the lens Shay, I was shocked at the size of it as I already owned the Canon 50mm 1.4 version, then when this one arrived I thought good heavens look at the size of that thing it takes 77mm Filters.

I'm only 5ft 1 , female and I really don't find these lenses that heavy to carry around, a great move was replacing the Canon Neck Strap with an OPTEC strap......makes carrying that 70-200mm IS lens much easier I tell you.

Thanks for looking Shay........and thank you for your help.

Thanks Skippy, I do shoot and save as raw. I agree that it gives you all the control you need for post processing (if needed). I also found out that custom curves for my camera give me a better result straight out of the camera. Thanks for guiding me towards evening shots. If I ever am brave enough to log a tripod with me, I will give it a try. (I doubt that I will ever have your results though. Don't forget it is not the lens in your shots, it is you holding the camera and stearing it)
