View Full Version : Yet another right-click question
Hello to all,
I am new to smugmug.
I was trying a lot of the very useful stuff I found in these forums.
I have read the cons and pros of right click disabling and I have decided to still go with it.
HOWEVER
I was wondering, is there a possibility to just disable the right click option without displaying the warning?
Any response will be greatly appreciated

Try putting this line of code in your bottom javascript:
document.oncontextmenu = function() {return(true);};
Thanks you kindly for your replies,
However, it didn't work.
I guess I will have to do with the warning

I guess I will have to do with the warning What is a link to your site and what browser are you using and I can look at why it didn't work? Works fine for me on my site.

I updated the text to my Right Click Message in the Easy Customizer and then clicked the Publish button. However the Right Click Message on my web site does not change? Any ideas?
Thank you,
Mark

I have been using both firefox and safari and with both it's the same.
When I added it, it allowed right click all together.

same message but $3.99 instead of 1.99. I tried both $3.99 and 3.99, but neither came through. I currently have 3.99 saved in the Easy Customizer and when I publish it, nothing happens.
Thank you for looking.

When I added it, it allowed right click all together. So, the prompt did go away just like you asked right? I gave you exactly what you asked for.
Try to right-click save. All you get is a blank GIF image. That's all normal right-click protection does. Except for removing the prompt, everything else is still the same as it was before.

Yes it did remove the prompt, but I was still able to go and save an image and copy the link to the image and save it from there.
What I meant really was, that when someone right clicks nothing will happen. No options will be displayed and no prompt will appear. So, the clicking will be disabled fully just without the warning message.
That's not possible?

That's not possible? Show me a gallery where you did a right click save?
It is not possible to prevent any options from being displayed. Also are you sure the image you saved is actually the image you were protecting? Usually, it is a blank GIF image and is NOT the image you are trying to protect (that's how right-click protection works).
FYI, right click protection is a minor deterrent at best. I can bypass right-click protection in a matter of seconds. If an image can be displayed on the web, anyone can take it. That's just life on the open standards internet. Real image protection comes from limiting the size you display on the web, watermarking and/or password protection.

You should be aware that right click protection is really no protection at all - images can still be snatched from any computer on which they are displayed.

Yes I am aware of all this, and I am aware that it is possible to bypass right click protection.
I just saw a website, possibly not powered by smugmug, where there right-clicking did not yield any response, which I thought was cool. That's all I was trying to do, I will most likely go to watermarking from now on, although I also think it's a nuisance sometimes.
Thank you kindly.
BTW, Thank you for that java code.
I did work, now that I try to actually save the image
It's me who is illiterate :)
