I'm sure everybody have seen plenty of examples of textured portrait. This time around we'll try to do one, only using newspaper(s) as the texture source.
Your entry should include the original portrait shot (you can use pet as your subject if humans are hard to come by), a shot of a "texture source" or two and, of course, the final result.
One entry per person, multiple entries OK if the technique is different.
As always, fresh pictures only.
Let's get some newstextures!

Nikolai,

I've been living under a rock--never heard of this.
I googled it and saw plenty of ways to do it in PP like Lightroom, which is not what you want.

Any links you can suggest or a quick how-to if you can.

Oh, sorry, I thought it's clear: it is a composite image. I doubt you can do it in LR (you need layers), but any advanced editor like PS can help!

Ok, I'm not quite sure I have this right, but here goes. The original image:

A texture and some grain to try and make it look newspapery :

Dave, thank you for trying, but we'e talking way more pronounced texture. Just google for it, you'll see what I mean...

For this one I used something with more severe textures. I also just learned to use the filter>distort>displace, which I've never heard of before tonight. Even if this isn't correct for the assignment, I have once again learned something new in the Assignments forum! Thanks Nik:

Howdy.

Long time no posting, but this assignment got me going again. Thanks. I had fun learning about the whole textured portrait business, and course figuring out how to do it. Trying to track down some interesting headlines was the hard part.

Hi Kenno,
thank you for the entry! :thumb
While this is not exactly what I had in mind, good idea and nice execution! :clap

Well it's 2010 and I'm back Nikolai:D .
I was the first person to reply to your original post and I was totally clueless about textuers--now I can't stop.

Hope this is what you had in mind--either way, it's helping me to learn.

Hi Liz,
Thank you for another attempt!
It's closer, but still no cigar :rolleyes
Without your text I would have never guessed there was an additional texture involved, let alone it's a newspaper...:dunno

Ok Nikolai,
This was my first entry here--I meant when you originally posted the assignment I thought you actually had to use newspaper--as in real, not virtual--so clueless.

I'll be back.
