Another senior girl. How am I doing?

Been getting lots of calls for seniors...mostly girls from just one school, but hey, its a start! :clap This is Christine. Gorgeous girl and my camera seemed to love her! VERY little lightroom adjusting. I think the D3 liked her contrastiness? (is that even a word?) Anyhow.... Do you think I am doing better and on the right track? I'm trying to not be too boring but these girls just want to stand and smile. Tried to get them to bring props or hats or change of clothes but it's just not happening:dunno C/C is always appreciated. The only way I learn anything..... Sorry so many but I couldn't choose :D Thanks for looking...

I like this series. Her eyes just sparkle. I tell my girls that the first 1/2 hour for me is sometimes, but not always, the "getting to know each other"" phase. She's trying to get comfortable with me and me trying to figure her out. I also tell them up front that if they don't relax with me, I will do something stupid to make them laugh.....of course I also make sure that I say and so stuff that would embarress my 14 yr old if she saw or heard me. This approach works pretty well so far....except for the guy I shot last sunday....pretty tough cookie. LOL

I see a progression of the beginning towards the end. She looks stiff and unsure and towards the end she visibly relaxes.

#12 for the edgy...I probably would have had her stand up and put her hands on her hips go diva on ya.....of course, like you said...maybe that isn't her.

I've told several more reserved ones though...I've seen your FB books...I know you have a diva in there somewhere. (not that I stalk...I usually add them as friends when they book so I can tag their pics for them.)
Boy...I'm chatty. I hope somewhere in there is some cc for ya. LOL

Colors look a little funky in 11, and lighting looks funky in 13. There were a few (1,2,10) that were a little overexposed (maybe) - they seemed to be lacking some depth...

Your are right; she is gorgeous. Love everyone one of them. She has great eyes and funny how her hair seems to match the color. That just seems to make her eyes show up that much better. General comment .... discounting the fact that you have used different processing going from one photo to the next (that's a goodness) there are some where I would have expected to see less variation in light temperature ... compare 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 for example.

#3 is to die for - love the light, her eyes, the way the light plays on (and in) her hair, the pose, the crop. For me, it's pretty much the total package.

#5 - The flowers distract away from her face and you've got the shadow from the flowers on her face. Neither is a goodness.

#6 - Pose/posture is a little too relaxed for my taste, but I love the treatment. And, her eyes just seem, for me at least, to pop - nice catchlights there!

#7 - This is a candidate for B&W (mono-tone) treatment as you've got at least three different colors of light on her face alone. Her face is a little centered - if you have more of the photo to the left (more of her arm), I would re-crop this by taking a bit off the top and the right.

#8 - Love the quality of the light and the pose rocks. Cropping, again, a bit too centered - move the camera to the left just a touch. I'm not too sure about the flowers running through her head.

Beautiful. :clap Love most of them. 5,10,12 didn't work so well for me. Didn't like the really harsh light on 5 (and the flower shadow), 10 felt somewhere short of high-key but still her face was washed out (probably just me), and 12 wasn't so edgy -- she just looked annoyed.

1,2 and 3 are my favorites of the group, though I would be happy if any of my pics turned out as well as any of the above...

Thanks Julie! I am a facebook stalker too! But I wasn't able to find her ahead of time. I found out after that she has herself "unfindable" She did have a few diva like pictures on there but in this case her mom was there...maybe that made a difference?:dunno Thanks for commenting!

Thanks dudie! You are probably right on the over exposure. I tend to expose to the right, looks kind of hot on the laptop I am on now but not so much on the calibrated Mac. I will probably bring it down a little if they decide to order any of those! Lighting in 13 is existing, just was trying something different. Maybe even a little funky! Thanks for the critiques! Hi Blaser! Thanks for commenting! All done in available light. My flash hasn't seen the hotshoe in months for my outside portraits! I have just been walking around my favorite spot I take pictures in looking for the light. The girls really feel embarassed if I cart around my softbox or umbrella since it is public space and with the kids they just move too fast! Of course now that fall is here in the northeash I will have to be looking harder!

Thanks for the suggestions! I will give them a try. I appreciate the fact that you like them! Funny how you mention the light color variation. I use auto wb and truly there are all of these different light colors in this place. I encounter the same light color issues everytime I go there. Some are partial shade, some open shade, some under cover that might be casting colors or something :dunno

and in #5. I purposely left the flower shadow. I thought that a young girl might like that. a flower imprint on her cheek. So I left it... don't expect her to buy it though:huh

Thanks so much. I like the words beautiful work! That is what I strive for :D I do agree with your assessment. There are definitely some better than others as far as working well ... I comment when I have the time and when I think I might have something to contribute. Usually, by the time I get around to looking at a thread, others have already made all the comment I would have so ---- nothing to add and I move on to the next one.

AWB is fine for many "easy" situations. But, when there's a chance that the camera will get fooled, it's usually best to shoot a gray target (right next to the model's face) to make WB correction in post easier.
