Gallery customizing allows setting Comments for the gallery, but I can't seem to find how to turn on Comments on individual pictures.
Been through all the help screens related to comments and social, and not seeing it.
Any help?
Thanks,
jon

Hi Jon,
Comments are a gallery wide setting, afaik. You can't turn off comments for a gallery and then enable comments for one photo.

do you want to make it so they can only leave comments on "this photo" and not the entire gallery?
there is javascript to do that if that if that is what you are looking to do...
let us know and we can point you in the right direction.

It's already there. When you select Add Comment, there's a drop-down where you choose to leave a comment on the gallery or the image.

Thanks, John...
Unfortunately that feature is not available on the Journal style, which is where I set that particular gallery at the request of the couple. They have family members with visual impairments that make it difficult to see the thumbnails and Journal was the best choice.
I generally use SmugMug style so will have that feature enabled in the future.
Thanks for the help.

jon I presume the Journal style doesn't have this feature because there is no "selected" image so there's no way to know which image they would be applying a comment to, thus it only supports gallery comments. Plus they only display comments at the end of the page which wouldn't properly associate them with a given image either. That's just not a feature Smugmug has.

The Journal-Old style allows for both types of comments because a user can click on any image in the journal list and it opens a larger size. Then comments can be added to each picture individually, if that's what you're after. That style does introduce other difficulties though - it's not obvious for the uninitiated to figure out how to get back to the whole gallery. i.e., by using the backspace button, or clicking the Gallery title in the breadcrumb.

Sebastian suggested I try the new thumbnail style to my Daily Gallery.

I think it looks great. I notice that viewers can only make comments on my album but unable to make comments on my individual photos.
I have done a search trying to find a solution to this, so far haven't found a remedy.
Can anyone help please.
TIA Lesley
