pet portraits - commercial use

This is another one of those "how much should I charge" threads.

I normally respond to these with a link to that stock calculator, but that site doesnt really apply to this sort of thing.

Because every market/area has different pricing that it can support, I guess I will ask what % that I should increase my prices by, based on my regular print/digital pricing.

I know some dog breeders, and one of them seems interested in having portraits taken of some of their dogs to be used in advertising their business.

Should I ask 2x my regular digital image price, or more?

You want to charge more because they are dogs or because it is commercial use?

If it is for commercial use, the product (the dog) should be no different than any other commercial image.

If you do not shoot commercial images currently, you will need to figure out what use will be needed, how long that use will be needed, where that use will be needed, and you factor it the same way you would any other image.

You also need to factor in a percentage of the costs of contracts, usage licenses, and waivers that should be written by your attorney.

The biggest difference between shooting commercially versus non commercial is the paperwork and time involved.
