Once in awhile it is fun to use people as props to show the scale and vastness of the landscape...even though it is just us! Suggestions welcome.

Awesome shots, I have vertigo just looking at these!
What lens did you use for the third shot, looking down? That is amazingly steep.
Marc.

I know where this is at!

2nd shot- where the road starts to come back together is Kols Ranch and forest rd that leads to the Tonto Fish Hatchery. I have been camping in that area for over 10 years.

We look one way toward Christopher Creek; the other way toward Kohl's Ranch. We are between the two on Promotory Butte looking at unit 23 :D. There were too many cars near the one edge so we hiked 3 miles in away from the crowds. A beautiful place isn't it?

The sky is a pretty blue. I'm in a quandary with the colors being rendered in different browsers. My monitor is calibrated; the pictures print the correct colors, but it is only in IE that I can see the intended colors. I just don't know what else to do. :dunno

Thank you...it is quite the place. I got stung, thorns in my foot and I leaned over the edge too much and lost my water as I watched it go tumbling into oblivion. My husband refused to retrieve it. :D But the views were great.

Thank you. There were many, many steep cliffs. I used a Sigma 10-20 lens.

It is a very cool place. Truth be told I have not stopped on the rim in probably 4 years. I usually have the boy and other little ones so we stay around Tonto Creek because I know where two waterfalls are and the kids love the fish hatchery. Near Indian Village, turn 1/2 mile West of Kohls Ranch is a big trail area for bikes and quads, there is a Geode area and you can find crystals along the forest road and one dry wash.

We also visit Tonto Natural Bridge & Fossil Springs when up there.

Yikes, little ones around this rim... would make me a nervous wreck. I would stay far in the forest with the kiddies! Water falls and fish hatchery are much safer!:D

Pretty cool to see your pictures here. Sweet. Love to get my feet in the
picture once in awhile also. Perspective and just for the fun of it.
I think most times it can be really difficult to tell height in a photograph.
Yours tells is neatly. I so hate being on the edge like that. :D

Again, nice pictures. :thumb

I LOVE the last two shots. What a beautiful area! I haven't done much exploring up in that area. *adding it to my list of places to visit*

Love the "on the edge" feel of these! There is nothing like that feeling of being above it all!
Last shot has a great feel.

This is one precipitous place. Any vertigo? :D
Love the perspective. The views were really spectacular. What a great place to sit down, have a snack and enjoy the vistas. :barb

Lots of vertigo! Actually...I was bending over a little too much and dropped my water. It tumbled into oblivion. I took a deep breath after that! :huh
